Millipede Troublshooting
« on: August 20, 2006, 09:40:20 pm »
Hey all,
Just picked up a Millipede at the auction this weekend. The seller was full of dunky when he told me what the problem was (I figured he was) but..."You probably need to change a fuse" always smells stinky. Anyway, when it is switched on, I get the monitor to fire up and the marquee comes up. I Do not measure +5v on the main board, but I do get other voltages on the board that reflect the voltages that are printed on the board. I am not sure where to start on the PS. Is this one of the situations, change out the big blue cap...type things.

Check and clean the pcb edge connector first.
Then check the regulators and such on the Audio Regulator board. (ARII..... A035435-02)

The regulator on the audio board effects the voltage on the main?

Yes.... it is a dual purpose board.
Most people mistake that it's just for the audio. It also provides the DC voltages for the game pcb iteslf.

Regulator / Audio

Also check to see if R29 and R30 are OPEN (bad). (+5v supply and sense) (both are 10 ohm I believe)
Typically burned up due to a bad or flaky edge connector on game pcb causing a bad sense line.

Two areas to look at:

Hehe .... nah .... but I've had my fair share of theeee oddest crap to mess with since I got into the arcade scene. Got my hands into a little bit of everything it seems.

And why I gotta be the evil one....dang.  ;)

Oh, and don't be surprised if a color gun goes out on that moniotor if it still has the Matsushita in it.  ::)

Hey MYX, I have a spare Big Blue cap if you get to the point where you want to try and swap it out.  It will give me an excuse to come over to your house and check out that Millipede cabinet
THAT I LOST TO YOU......

JK... ;D... I never put a bid on it, you really wanted it, and I really wanted the Centipede cabinet which I did get anyway... so everything is Hunky Dory...

Good luck getting that thing running,  that was a beautiful cabinet... and it will be even more beautiful when it starts working...
