Neat pics over on the other board. Did you watch the movie yet? Supposedly, it comes out on real DVD (not the bootleg version) next month. :)

That blue stuff looks like dried battery acid. Is that where the PCB battery used to be?

The cabinet looks very nice for its age. Does the monintor power up at all? Have you checked voltages on the power supply?

The next step for you is to get a manual and see what those missing parts are.

Good luck with your project! Defender is a timeless classic and will provide many hours of entertainment for you once you get it working.

Check out KLOV for help diagnosing your problems. Or Ken Layton could tell you the problem in about 2 seconds.
I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

Please read the wiki!

Download the User Manual at the KLOV link supplied....

You will see straight away the part that is missing is the battery holder that hold 3 AA batteries..

Very nice find.  I bet the previous owner had lots of cool stories.   Are you planning of touching up the paint?

BTW, I took a road trip through Belgum to Holland 5 years ago.  Very beautiful and memorable trip.  The Belgum waffles we picked up from a street vendor in the main square (I forget the city) were to die for.

Yeah, looks like classic "suicide" battery residue. Hope it works after the cleaning.

Congrats on the new machine. Man, you are out of control! I think you should start thinking about building a second floor for your gameroom...

Hey, thanks to all for your nice words  :-*

Well, after the cleaning, it still doesn't work  :(

I've alrdeady changed all the RAM, but it was not the problem.

It can be :

Missing batteries + acid on pcb, like some of you are saying here... but it can be also a missing rom...

Have a look at this picture :

Two empty rom sockets !

Is it normal ?

Thanks for support  ;)

The info is all out there if you look.

By the looks of it you have an early model.

CPU board 5770-09471......Rom board 5771-09472

http://www.robotron-2084.co.uk/techwilliamshardwareid.html

Notice The number of roms on the board

Now for confusion, that site shows the same number on both early and later boards where the actual theory of operation manuals from the KLOV link show different

Early Board

Later board

So I would find someone else with an early board to clarify

HTH

*Edit*

That's what I get for taking my time....Someone gets there before me

Thansk for the links and your help  :)

I've also an other problem with... the monitor  :badmood:

I can adjust the horizontal screen position.

A good part of the picture is missing... the left part of the screen... and I can't adjust it !!!

I suppose I've to adjust it with this :

THere is three pins to use, but when I plug the red wire on each of them, I see no difference :-(

That red wire goes to 2 pins, than to this coil :

Do you thing that coil is broken ? How can I check it  ?

Thanks for your precious help  :notworthy:

I'd ask the question over on the Monitor/Video board..

I'm sure a Mr Layton or someone else will know the answer...

Just had it confirmed by someone with and early board...

Order of release, White, Blue, Green , Red label

White was a prototype with 10 chips, Blue had 10 chips........Green and Red had 11 chips.

HTH

P.S

The Blue label board is undumped and not in Mame....

I'm from Holland too and completely missed this baby !!!!
Congrats on your purchase, hope you'll get it working. Awesome collection you have there !

Is there a way to move something within the coil ? Maybe it's adjustable this way ?
