« on: May 25, 2006, 05:35:08 pm »
Has anyone used neorage with mamewah?

From what iv heard it has its own gui so will i require a hacked version/ non gui mame compatible version to get irt working with mamewah?

You have 3 options you can use Neorage only problem is it only displays games in 8 bit and 320x240. Or use NeorageX with something like joystick 2 mouse and control the gui with your joystick. Or you can use winkawaks instead. It takes a little longer to load games then Neorage but if you have more than 128MB it shouldn't be a problem. With winkawaks you also need a wrapper to use it with a frontend. And i'm sure you already know that Neorage uses hacked roms you can use with mame won't work.

There's no reason to keep using NeoRageX. Use WinKawaks, it has commandline facilities so it should be usable with any frontend. And if you use the decrypted sets (which you can do yourself with WinKawaks) it takes exactly the same time to load as NRX or any NeoGeo emulator.

Are you sure about this? What version? Could you give an example of the command line facilities you're talking about? That has been discussed around here lot's of times and the only solution seems to be using a wrapper. How do you decrypt sets?

I have been using nebula in Mamewah with no problems.  John crouse has everything you need to get it up and running on his website.  Link: http://www.emuchrist.org/cpviewer/neogeo.htm

As far as decrypting roms??? It should run encryted or decrypted roms.  I use the roms from the mame set plus a few additional ones that are not supported by mame.

Yes, I'm sure about this. I talked with Mr. K to add a couple more commandline options like -fullscreen so a game could be run from the commandline without seeing the GUI:
WinKawaks.exe s1945pn -fullscreen

There are more options but I don't remember. Use -help to see them, I guess. Unless commandline is broken in latest versions, it should work in any version newer than 1.33.

About decrypted sets, it only works for encrypted games, of course. For example Strikers 1945 Plus. You load WinKawaks, and on the Tools menu you'll find an option called "enable saving of decrypted C's after loading". Load the encrypted game and wait. Once it's loaded, close it. In the WinKawaks folder you'll find the new roms. Zip them up into the appropiate name, for example for Strikers 1945Plus is s1945pn (look for it in the game list shown in the "load game" window). Next time, run the decrypted version instead of the normal one, and it'll be lightning fast.

Again, it's not that NeoRageX loads faster, it's that it doesn't support encrypted sets.

Just tried winkawaks with command line but no go. I remember I tried it before just wanted to make sure. It hasn't been working for a while. The
earliest version I tried it with was 1.46

Ya Nebula works great but not on low spec machines. I tried it on a 600mhz with no luck. I'm running winkawaks with gamelauncher and mamewah with 2 usb joysticks only. Have to run winkawaks with a wrapper though but works great! No keyboard neccesary.

You're right, it doesn't work from the command line. However, it does accept parameters. If you create a shortcut link for WinKawaks.exe and add a gamename and -fullscreen to it, it does work. Strange. I'm using 1.54 right now. I wonder when did command line stop working.

You're also right that Nebula doesn't go well in low-spec machines. I've never been able to use it properly.
