Fantastic. That was definately one of the best amateur duels I've seen. All they need to do is throw on some tights and blue screen the back ground and that would have been better than the Gummi Bear duel in Ep2.  :notworthy:

Wow, nicely done, both technically and action. I was hoping that Dorkman would win, but the other guy had the immunity idol or something.

Man, they must be using real "swords" in that video and touching it up with the effects. Very well done indeed. Watch out George...

Ryan Wieber has a ton of special effects tutorials online, and amazingly went on to get a job with Lucasarts and worked on a few games, including KOTOR II.

The Art of the Saber

There is a mistake though, in that you can't stick a lightsaber into the ground the way they do because it would burn its way down instantly. Apart from that it is an excellent piece of work.

Why is it that the only attacks that actually connect in lightsaber battles since the original trilogy are kicks and punches?   :laugh2:

Very well done though.   :notworthy:

It's too bad that they're giant ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?---.  All of their punches and kicks looked as fake as they were because they wouldn't put any back into them.  It's for a production that the world is going to see.  So you go home with a couple of bruises . . .

Yeah... hm.  :-\ I love the idea, and the technical execution of the saber effects were great... but their choreography was actually pretty bad - even by Star Wars standards, which, I'm sorry to say, are already pretty LOW on the totem pole of great fights, in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not shitting on their effort, they had some nice moments ... but you can certainly tell they are not performers (or even martial artists) by training.

The choreography is better in Art of the Saber, but it suffers from the same essential problem; no intent.  Lots of pretty movements and a few unique ways of dealing with the saber... but not once did I get any kind of emotional stakes.  Not once did I believe that any of the three clips were anything more than a tech demo.

But then again; I felt that way about SW Episodes 1-3... so maybe I'm just sad and jaded.  :'(

Lots of rotoscoping done in Premire me thinks.

In the old days when we just had regular 8 film, I used to put small scratches with an needle on the film to make laser beams.  Things have come a long way since then.

I used to make all the models for my films, out of old car and model plane kits, which sadly the films have been destroyed.  My Father was in photography and understood the blue screen technology as he used them in his titles.  My Mother was a matt painter, and also did colour on B/W film and negatives.  Kind of like Albert Whitlock used to do on glass.

I used to do stop animation with clay models, but for some odd reason I ditched the hobby to concentrate on video games.   ???

But one day I'll have to remake one of them with my DV video camera and PC.   ;D

Here is the link for rotoscoping I found on the net.

The sabre sound effects can be created with an amp, and a sampler.

Its not hard to do, but takes a lot of timing and patience and multicoloured tape.  ;D

And some real violence!!

This was cute, for a spell. Definitely there's the 'do you think this would've been possible for just anyone to do in twenty years?', and I think we all (on my street) would've said 'no'. Still, I think the original SW movies were best. They meant to kill each other and there was no flashy stuff in-between.
