Hardware question about ram memory.
« on: March 01, 2006, 08:47:24 pm »
Sorry if it's the wrong forum to ask, but I could not fit the question in any other area.

I put together a dedicated machine for my cab.

I am using an AMD Sempron 3000+ 64 Bits (754) processor on a ASUS K8N motherboard and 512 MB DDR 400Mhz Kingstone.

I also have hanging around another 512 MB ram stick, but it's a DDR 333Mhz Samsung.

Is it possible to use both sticks on the same board?

I am actually using them together right now. Mame is running pretty good with 1GB of ram...

My question is if it would damage my hardware using the two different brand and frequency memory sticks.

What do you guys suggest?

Thanks so much!

I personally don't think so. I'm using a 266 with a 333 and they work fine. 1yr+

Thanks Gonzo, I believe there will be no problem using both different sticks here on my side too.

Heyas, I can answer that as  I recently researched the same question.
When it comes to RAM you can mix different speed types as long as your MB supports them. But ( always a kicker)  they will all run at the slowest stick speed, in your case 333mhz. it is also advised to place the slower stick in the fist DIMM slot

Thanks so much mj147!

Actually I am using the fastest stick on the first memory slot, will replace that right away.

My MB supports 266, 333 and 400 memory frequencies.

Again, would like to thank you for your help!
