I had the same problem a while ago, and posted same question on a different board. Here's what I was told, and yes it did work for me.

Thanks to both of you guys for the responses. It seems as if I had everything going. The only thing that I didn't read anywhere in my lookings was the "mame -createconfig" command. I will try when I get home. I originally was trying to get it working with mame32, but had no luck, so then re-installed by mame and moved over a few roms for testing. I know the mame was working, as I did the old mame pacman to see if it would run, and it did. I hope the createconfig works. Everything else seems correct for the most part. Wish me luck, and I will post back the results.
