Tiger Woods golf for your cab
« on: February 18, 2003, 04:36:11 pm »
How do you guys who own it like this one?  I have Golden Tee PC and the expansion courses on my cab and I like it.  Are there any other good pc golf games that work well in a cab with a trackball?

Something I do have to keep in mind is that I only have a Radeon 7000 in my cab.  This works great for MAME of course because the games dont take advantage of DirectX features, but pc games will, and Tiger Woods 2003 is an EA sports game, I guess it probably takes a newer video card to run well.

Sigh, radeon 7000 is a fairly new card.  I ran tiger woods demo on my computer just a few minutes ago (ATI 128).  I don;t like it compared to links or pga tour.  It would work well in an arcade though.  It didn't take much skill to swing a good swing though which is why it would be good for an arcade.

Is Tiger Woods a trackbally kind of game?  I have Tiger Woods 98, but I've never installed it on my "serious" computer because I have Links 2001.

Where did you buy the expansion courses for Golden Tee?  I've only seen Golden Tee itself for sale, never saw any additional courses...

I had to get directly in touch with ITS games.  They have copies there at the office for sale.  Their website doesn't mention the expansion but it is available if you email or call their contact number.  It was pricey compared with the initial game, if I recall correctly, about $14.95 plus shipping.

Yeah, ever since PGA Championship 2000 intruduced the true swing everone uses it.  I still think pga 2000 is the best golf game, requires more skill to play:)

Anyway, yeah, tiger, links, all use the truswing now where you pull the mouse back then push it forward.  tiger lis a little more lienient with it.  PGA 2000 you had to have a nice even stroke of the mouse to hit a good shot.  It was pretty easy to go to fast.  In the tiger demo I have yet to go too fast.

I have never played the new arcade golf games that are out there, but the guy who sits next to me at work is a freak about arcade golden tee.  He and a few of his buddies play it two nights a week at their local bar for $20 a game.  He takes the thing way too seriously, probably because he wins a hundred bucks a week playing it.

Anyway, I had him over to my house because I was all proud of my cab and the golden tee pc and I wanted to have him try it out.  Man he took about 1 swing on that thing and he totally hated it.  I guess the pc game, even when using a real arcade trackball, just isn't nearly the same as the genuine arcade game.

Well, my primary user is an 8-year old girl, so acradey is better than realistic... she already gets frustrated on putting...  When I want hardcore golf, I play Links 2001 on my regular system.... :)

Thanks for your input!

He's probably pumping his money into Golden Tee 2003; I think the PC version is equivalent to Golden Tee 2000.
