220v into TV = zzzzt!
« on: February 13, 2006, 10:30:50 pm »
The guy that lived in my house before me wired up a 110v outlet with 220v.  I don't know why he did that, but a buddy of mine (who lived in the house after the 220v guy but just before me) plugged his JVC AV-27CM4 27" TV into the outlet and when he turned it on he said it made a crackling sound that went from right to left, and then it never worked again.  Anyway, he left the TV here when he moved out and I want to use it for a cabinet.

My question is, do you think it's worth the $25 diagnostic fee at the local TV repair place, or is it probably shot beyond repair?  Could it be a simple fix that I could do myself?

Thanks for any info!

could be a pretty big job you got there, the fact is that your tv power supply circuit will have some blown componants, you could be looking at fuse, diodes, capacitors and pos a transistor or chip-i dont think this is gonna be an easy fix but you could try changing the fuse(you never know your luck) otherwise this is tv repair shop job.
