Is Burger King trying to tell us they're going out of business?
« on: February 07, 2006, 11:09:10 pm »
I don't know what's going on, but I was flipping through the channels and happened upon a commercial where that freaky plastic headed 'king' was twirling some guy's underpants on his finger.

...

I really can't fathom the marketing ideology behind this.  I would, and this is just me mind you, I would tend to keep "underwear", and "food you buy-prepared for you by punk kids" out of the same commercial.  Am I missing some crazy new hipster trend here?   :o

The McTighty-Whitey at McD's is also good. Hold the skid marks.

Is that what you did with them?  I don't even want them back if you stuck them on a whopper...unless it was your whopper.

Doesn't matter... BK signed their own death warrant when they went with the soggy lactose sticks they call french fries.

Take a mass produced fast food item and drench it in lactose and you preclude most of the nonwhite people and many of the white people from being able to eat them without getting sick.

Man, I like BK fries.  They have good food. They are pretty busy, their stock is good.

Nice clean resturant.  As good or better than McDonalds or Wendys.

The coating on those "new" fries is like 80% raw lactose.  They go through me like Ex Lax.

Can't eat the fries and most people will go to McDonald's instead.  That means half of all black people, 75% of Middle Easterners, and 95% of Asians.  The screwed themselves HARD when they made that switch and then refused to switch back when their business plummeted.  To this day they won't admit that the fries are what caused their rapid decline.

When did they start coating their fries? I remember about 10 years ago, they were still similar to McD's. Pretty much every fast food resturant near me has better fries than them (McD, Wendy, Checkers)

It was like 2000 or so I think... I used to eat there a lot in the late 90s when I was in college, left in 1998... then didn't eat there a couple of years, but when I went back in like 2001 the fries made me REALLY sick.

Knowing what they do for Chad, I suddenly feel a need to support them for the effects they cause him.  Stingray, when we go visit him, I say we bring him fries from BK and mix 'em in with someone else's fries so he doesn't catch on right away ;D

Some, but not nearly as much as other places that are European or of European descent.  Most of it is not lactose based.  Hell, milk comes from a cow, which would raise some issues in India, yes?

Lactose tolerance is NOT the default human condition.  It is a mutation that developed in several harsh climates where milk from an animal was the primary source of sustenance for long periods.  The largest source of this mutation was what is now Norway, Sweden, and Finland and it was brought down by the Vikings who spread it through all of the European coast and it migrated inland when the British spread all over the world.  This is why lactose tolerance is primarily a caucasian condition with far lesser percentages in any other race after the age of about 2.

Most of the world is Lactose Intolerant to one degree or another.

Part of the reason Hindus revere cows is because they give so much to us, including milk.

That said, those plastic King commercials are hillarious and they are clearly successful, considering they keep making new ones based on him.

THAT said, I think burger king is pretty much gross food and I almost never eat there.  Same goes for McDonalds and Wendy's, though.

What ever happened to Herb? (That's Herb not erb)
When I was in high school, Herb was their gimmic. Someone stole a roll of Herb stickers from the veggie dept at the local grocery. Everyone was wearing herb stickers. Ghaw we were messed up.

Don't like BKs Fries. Sure I'll eat em if it is the only thing. They taste gritty.

McD's Fries are the best and always have been. Checkers comes a close second.

Actually, I think Wendy's has the best fries, but only if they are piping hot, then they are nice and crisp.  Mcpigs second, BK third, then KFC and Harveys way in the back.

True dat on Wendy's.  Unless they're hot, they suck.

I don't like being a PITA at fast-food joints by ordering something all effed up, but at Wendy's, I ALWAYS order my fries and tell them I want them with no salt on them.  Pick up a packet of salt, salt 'em myself, and I'm good to go!

Not trying to change the conversation.. but..

My wife works in a predominantly black school (95% children are black, 4% are hispanic, 1% are asian/white according to school's monthly reports)..  The teachers are approximately 85% black (based on my wife's estimate).  Almost every child drinks milk with lunch every day with no suppliments for lactose intollerance.  She asked her grade level (2nd) as well as the kindergarden teachers and none of them are lactose intollerant and none of them were aware that studies show that 80% of blacks are lactose intollerant.

Of course this isn't an official study but just going on this data how accurate could the studies be that show that 80% of blacks are lactose intollerant.  Could it just be the area she's in?  She teaches in the lowest income school in Fort Worth, TX.  Could it just be the upper class blacks that are lactose intollerant or could the children and parents be lactose intollerant but just don't know it?  :D

It has to do with the fact that children are not lactose intolerant... lactose tolerance is born into most species and then tapers off as the child matures into an adult.  The age at which it tapers can vary from person to person but generally if the child is born lactose intolerant then they cannot breastfeed and since that is the natural foodsource, those children would have been naturally selected for starvation until modern times.

BTW, no one said 80%.  I said 50%.  You're also only talking about one isolated area where there is likely a lot of historic racial mixing, skewing the racial dataset.

50% is worldwide, which if you went to Africa, where there is far less racial mixing, the stats go way up and that's how you get your worldwide average.

I have a close black friend from that area of Texas and just asked him.  He says that a lot of folks there actually are lactose intolerant but have no idea why they have problems.  He also says the school systems pretty much gives the milk to the kids with no alternatives other than being hungry.  This would really make a difference in a poor area where that is probably the only real meal a kid gets all day.

Arby's probably has the best fries as far as fast food fries go, whether you're talking about their curly fries or their homestyle fries.

I don't like the seasoning that they use on their curly fries, but those homestyle fries are fantastic. I also like Wendy's but as stated, only if they're fresh out of the fryer.

The seasoning on their fries is probably full of lactose too... that's how seasoning is made to adhere to the fries.  It's done with chips and other stuff.  Lactose is a sugar, used to sweeten the coating, and it also makes the coating stick.  Most cooked foods with a "flavor coating" like that are full of lactose.

Just tell them to make regular fries and they don't have a problem.

Chicken fingers have ridiculous amounts of lactose too.
