25" monitors begone?
« on: January 08, 2006, 11:09:43 pm »
What's the deal with 25" monitors?

I've noticed that they are no longer available from the major e-tailers, be they Happ or Wells-Gardner. Are they being phased out, or are these companies just replenishing their supply?

The rumour is: All the picture tube manufacturers are ceasing production of 25" picture tubes.

This is stupid since there are hundreds of thousands of 25" monitors out there.

Dammit I hope that's not true.
I was hoping for a multisync type monitor a little bit smaller than the 27"/33" ones out there.  24" or 25" would be sweet.

Most new arcade machines have at least a 27'' monitor in there.

I have a 25 inch WG monitor in my GI Joe arcade cab.  They can't get rid of those!  They fit in the biggest cabinets that will fit through a standard doorway.  I think the 27 inch cabs are too big.

I emailed Wells Gardner last year asking about a 25" tri-sync monitor.  They said that they didn't currently offer one but were planning on bringing one out "very soon".  I guess "very soon" means "never". lol.

My cabinet can only fit a 25" monitor and I wouldn't want anything bigger anyway.  I think 25" is the perfect size.

I have wondered if it's possible to take the electronics from a tri-sync 27" monitor like the D9200 and combine it with a 25" tube and yoke board.

I'm sure this has to be possible.  People have certainly made stranger things work.

It looks like Happ is selling them once again, albeit a 24.8" version of the WG K7400.

I provide electronics to the military the reason you are not seeing anymore 25" per the new digital rules at the end of 2008 everthing 25" & above has to be digital ready, so toshiba, zenith etc have pulled all 25 inch tvs put a spacer in the case & these are now 24" to get around the rules, unfort. this applies to monitors to, even tho is should not, so if you are going to need a 25" i would snag one up before they become hard to get & more expensive
thanks

Well a 24" multi-sync would also be excellent, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.  I agree that 27" and above is just too big for horizontal games (even though vertical is just about perfect on them).

---gosh-darn--- government screwing up everything. They are forcing 'digital tv' on everyone and screwing with broadcasting and other video standards that have been established for over 60 years! "Digital is better for you---and we know what's best for you". Well the government can go to hell when they start screwing around with how we watch tv and play games.

There are only so many frequencies and bandwith to be used for broadcast signals... and we have pretty much exceeded it.  They need to get those analog broadcast spaces clear to make room for future technologies, and the digital change is the way to make this happen.

What on earth do broadcast frequencies have to do with MONITORS ??

On the other hand, let's face it, the days of the CRT are counted....I hope and pray there will be something happening like with the good old record player and vinyl. That industry is also still very alive and kicking, excellent quality and fiar prices....

TFT, LCD, plasma, all are NO replacement for the goold old CRT. The only exception may be the Canon SED technology, which looks very promising.

I have two 25" es in the two cabs I have, guess I should play as little as possible to keep them ok for as long as possible ;););) naah....not gonna happen... ;)
Will buy a new extra when Suzo wants to clear out their warehouse ;)

It's ok- a guy in the know (Todd at TNT) says the 24+" will be a perfect fit for 25" cabs..:-)

from rgvac:
"The reason the 25" monitor is no longer being made is the FCC has made it
mandatory that all new 25" and bigger MUST be high definition!  So Wells
Gardner has gotten around this by making a 24 1/2 inch monitor!  It will fit
in the same holes as your 25" monitor now...so all is NOT lost!  Todd from
TNT Amusements "
Pull a year and a half strike- it's over 4eva..
besides, WHL rocks!

Everything if you read the whole thread.

Monitor tubes = CRT tubes = Standard Def TV tubes.

No more standard def 25" TVs = no more standard def 25" TV tubes = no more 25" monitor tubes

They sell so relatively few arcade monitors, that if they're not already making the tubes for TVs, they are not going to make them for arcade monitors.

I dont know if this helps but hanterax make the polostar range of monitors which are auto frequency 15/25/31 and work on 35-38 with manual adjustment,i have  a few of these in my arcades and the picture quality is stunning.they have no plans to cease 25"tubes so check them out on www.hanterax.com(i am sure there must be a supplier in the U.S),if not get one shipped over.

don't get to bent oputta shape.. there are so many 25" tv's out there.... and if ya need a arcade monitor go with the universal chassis. I've seen them 1st hand and they look good. usually a RCA/Zenith tube Ive seen them used with.. circa 1990-96 era tv's.

Only being semi-hardcore into arcade games having a decent collection.. i usually see the chassis fail...thats fixable...yes? no?

Ugh.  It's uglier than we originally thought...

"The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) mandated that as of July 1, 2006, all TVs with screens 25" and larger must include an over-the-air digital tuner, and by march 1, 2007, all TVs 13" and larger must include a digital tuner."

So basically, after 2007, there'll pretty much be no more new arcade monitors.  Or if there are, they'll be freaking expensive.  Unless of course, someone can import bare tubes from another country and somehow get around the laws.

I have an old Zenith 25" TV in my bedroom.  I guess I'll have to hold on to it to be a tube donor for when my arcade cabinet's monitor eventually bites the dust.

Where in that does it say specifically "monitors" or even "video arcade monitors". It only said tv sets. Remember this only applies to the USA not the rest of the world.

I think IF there ever came to be a problem with getting arcade monitors, a person or company could contract or special order monitors from a foreign country made to certain standards as is done now with ATM machines, certain grocery store checkout monitors, security camera monitors, etc. and then shipped complete to a USA distributor.

They're doing it to us in Australia too. They're shoving the digital down our throats with vigour. Sure the image quality is a little better but the amount of signal dropouts per hour is ridiculous.

Also if the weather is bad, the image starts strobing.  :laugh2:

Glad I got cable TV.
Now in a tasty new flavour.

A buddy of mine and I were on a 2 hour trip out of town this past weekend. He has XM satellite radio in his car. Every single corner and curve we went on and the signal dropped out. So just about every couple of minutes we had nothing but silence out of this radio regardless of what station we were listening to. This is an improvement in broadcasting? :lame:

Of course it's an improvement. It not only supports the gun industry when you buy one to blow the piece of crap to bits, but also the car stereo industry when you go buy a new one.  ;D
