My quartet of '70s American Iron:
'72 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu with the 307. Unfortunately it was a four door. Wish I still had it though--first cars are always fondly remembered. Traded for:
'79 Ford Fairmont Futura. Say it fast: Futura! You can say it fast, but fast it weren't. 4 cylinder, burned a quart of oil every 75 miles (blue smoker). Traded quickly for:
'73 Ford Maverick Grabber. Now we talking. 3 speed, Boss 302 4 bbl Holley carb--beat to hell but still fun. Loved that car. And it witnessed my love as well: my first real girlfriend made a man out of me on the faux sheepskin-covered passenger seat. Sold it for:
79 Chrysler Cordoba. Oh man, the car was BEAUTIFUL. 318, black with red pinstriping, factory moon caps, blood red interior (no "Corinthian Leather" though) factory 8 track stereo with FF/REW (yeah baby!). 75000 original miles. Too bad it ran like a 1970's Chrysler product...which means it didn't. Walked many miles in my Pumas that cold winter.
