Questions on Cardio ? Chad
« on: January 04, 2006, 03:42:12 pm »
Any of you fitness gurus out there...what is the recommended amound of cardio you should perform each week.  I'm not a athlete by any means so I don't need to train for 80 mile marathons.  At this time I play racquetball 3 times a week for about 2 hrs a day, sometimes longer.   Is this sufficent ?

As far as weight lifting, is there a book or site with a easy to follow chart of some sort. ?  I get confused on what exercises to do.  My  legs are unusally muscular for some reason, they were that way even before the racquetball.  My arms and chest do definitely need some toning up.  I would consider myselft to be of avg strength.  Last time I worked out, I definitely overworked my triceps, they were killing me for a week.  What type of weight would be a good starting point.  I'm 5'9" 215lbs.  I'm definitely overweight, but I do have a bigger frame so I can carry the weight without looking like it.  I'm guestimating my target range to about 190.  Chad, I put your name in because I seen you were into weightlifting in some other thead, any suggestions ?

Ok....well you seen my weight goal, as far a weightlifting....I don't want to look like some world class bodybuilder ( besides, who really has the time or dedication for that ) I just want to look tone, not ripped....just healthy.

Then reduce your bodyfat.  Tone is far more low bodyfat than it is large muscles.

So do you suggest to just work out alot with lighter weights, keep up the cardio, and watch what I eat ?

You don't even really have to use the lighter weights if you don't want, just do a lot of pushups and your upper body will grow enough to accomplish what I think I'm hearing.

Stop being a fast food whore.  Clean up your diet, keep up that level of activity, and your bodyfat will drop.  You're already doing the hard part, which is finding time to do all the cardio, so stop eating stupidly and it should take care of itself.

My main downfall is my job.  I only have enough time to eat that dam fast food during the day.  When I'm at home having dinner, it is healthy.  I guess I'll start brown bagging work.  Pushups never even crossed my mind...I actually enjoy doing those for some odd reason.

thanks for the advice

now back to the other thread....Pats suck........j/k but in two years, my team will compete with yours ( hopefully )

Actually, my team is and has always been Tampa... I just happen to live 3 miles from Gilette Stadium.

Tampa is a good orginization, I like them alot.  Despite watch Gruden did for them,  I wish they would have kept Dungy.

Dungy had a super bowl talent level and couldn't win a super bowl with it... so they got someone who could.  Huge gamble but it worked.

Dungy hasn't won a super bowl in Indy yet either with a comparable talent level.

but he has built up a hell of a defense and that my friend is what wins superbowls.  Granted he has 3 awesome threats in harrison, manning and james...he now has the complete package.  Dungy is a defensive guy and he walked into a team with a highly rated offense, after a couple seasons he now has a complete team.

Gruden is a offensive guy and walked into the leagues # 2 rated defense.  barber, sapp, mcfarland.  once he put his input on offense in, you see where they went.

One hand shakes the other...except in baltimore's miracle run, when all they had was defense.

How on Earth are you going to talk about that D without mentioning their best player.

Mister Derrick Brooks

You will now apologize to Mr Brooks before he sacks your car on your way to work.

HA.  (Yes I'm half drunk)  That's exactly what I'm talking about.  My wife still insists we all call him MISTER DERRICK BROOKS because of that commerical.
