  • I want to Build My Own Arcade Controls!!
The new Arcade Cabinets at Target
« on: November 27, 2005, 02:21:52 am »
Anyone seen the new arcade cabinets at Target?  I saw/played one today and thought it was terrible.  It's made out of  a cheap laminate and has very cheap feeling controls.  If someone wants to buy it  go ahead but I think that it kind of belittles the efforts put forth here.  VERY low quality.

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=2-2/qid=1133075935/ref=sr_2_2/601-2325177-4188968?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B000AQHKR0
My long desired cocktail is moments from completion, I just have to find those moments somewhere!

I played one of these yesterday at Target...then I read Kevin's review.  I couldn't agree more.

This machine is unatractive, made on the cheap, has plastic and crap controls, a tiny monitor, etc, etc.

There is no reason for anyone to buy one of these.  Even for someone not good working with wood or electronics...there are always friends that could help convert an existing cab.

Just my 2 cents.

Don't feel like starting a new thread, but BJ'S Warehouse has got one of these deals too.  This unit is 899.99 and also sucks.  Seems to have real buttons (Only briefly checked it out, so memory may be off), unlike the Target one, but the joysticks were something.  I touched the stick and flop... it was all the way left.  It was like there was no spring what-so-ever in it.  Just a real piece of garbage... though twice as nice as the target one (Also twice as much).  Amusing if nothing else. I'm sure people are gonna buy this and be proud of it too:(

I saw an ad this weekend for the Target version. Price is down to $399. I wonder if they are having trouble moving them at $499/$449. I haven't seen one yet but I'm looking forward to visiting my local Target and checking out the demo just to see the level of crapiness for myself. It will probably come up to my armpit.
I've got a fever...

That could mean anything from "we've sold thousands" to "we sold the one we got in the central distribution center".

Saw one over the weekend, it was pure crap!  Looks like it was made with poster boards, like you would see a realty sign made of!  Very cheap looking and the joystick and buttons reminded me of those small little ms pacman game sticks that you plug into a tv!    Didnt see the games running, but the screen was so tiny, I think it would make for crappy game play!

I tried one tonight, had a great laugh, had the salesperson hanging their head in shame.

(In robotron the line at the bottom of the screen was gone, and there was no blue, only in that game, the menu had blue but not robotron).

Me and the ex-wife were just standing there insulting the thing left and right.
(I made sure we were extra loud so all the shopper could hear us.)

Most fun I've had in a week.

Later,

I saw one and thought it was pretty weak too, but I'd like to get my hands on the cartridge system/boardset/whatever just to check it out.  I'd like to see how it looks on a decent TV/monitor, and how it plays with decent joysticks and buttons.
