New Vector Supergirl Update - *Completed*
« on: October 21, 2005, 06:27:23 pm »
Update on my first arcade type vector art.

I liked that picture of Supergirl flying out of the explosion in the other supergirl thread!

If anyone wants the vector file, just pm me with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you.

Why not just upload it to the library HERE once your done under characters. Saves you being pestered with PM's and emails.

Ok, then, if anyone wants a copy of my crappy artwork then just PM me and I'll e-mail it to you.

It's just an exercise so I can lean how to vectorize artwork...but someone may be doing a superhero themed cab and could use it.  The background is on a separate layer so you can just use the figure if you want to.

I wouldn't take what zorg said to heart. I don't think he was having a shot at your artwork but more saying the Arcade Library is dedicated directly towards more traditional arcade artwork.

Living the delusional lifestyle.

I love it, and it WOULD make a lovely themed arcade cab...certainly great for sideart.

I'm not too sure why Zorg thinks it not suitable, but there are a number of hombrew pieces there not specific to real arcade artwork.

never mind...

Perhaps, may I suggest something as completicated but this time actually arcade related?

Lots of things out there....

Isn't that exactly what the Homebrew section is for (stuff like this)?

I'd offer up some criticism, but it looks pretty darn good to me. Can't really see any faults with it.

Great job.

Felsir,

Thanks, that's the kind of advice I was hoping for.  I agree...I didn't quite like how her face and some of the darker areas (under armpit, lower part of hair, etc.) were Turing out.  On my next piece I'll do the color reduction and then make my swatches from the original image.  Now that you mention it, it's obvious that would make a much more accurate vector image.  That's why it's so great to get good feedback from the masters...it helps everyone's artwork improve.

Congrats on your twins, by the way.  We just had our second in April so I have a (very) slim idea of what you're going through.  I hope everything turns out well with them!

the theme is nice and it would make a nice theme for a cab, but this one will not.
try to print it at full size and check how it will look.

because of the poor quality of the tracing.
the tracing is weird, sorry for fixumdude to look as rude, but this is unuseable

even arcade related with this quality will not be suitable for the AAL

This is my first artwork post here so any constructive criticism is welcome.
Let me know what I should have done differently so I can improve on the next one.

try to start with less complicated and detailled subject and trace it by hand, you will see how it will turn. once you will have some facilty to trace, you will improve it with gradients and shading effects

I may sound crude, but actually the supergirl needs a lot of hard work in order to be useable.

Actually the entire thing was traced by hand.  I mostly used the pencil tool because the shapes were so organic.  I didn't want to use the pen tool, especially on the explosion, etc. because it was just for practice and I didn't want to spend a year on it.  I agree that it could use a lot of work, but as I tried to explain in my first post it was just an exercise to get me started on tracing artwork.  It was never meant to be used as sideart, but I thought it might be useful for someone as a small part of a control panel or marquee.

I'm not going to taint the AAL with it, but after comparing it to some of the character art on there I don't see how it is so much more awful then some of the others.

I appreciate the advise in the last couple posts...at least it gives me a little more to go on then just calling my first attempt at artwork crap and not saying why you think so.

Is this the type of thing you're looking for in the Arcade Art Library or would this also be unusable?

the theme is not really a problem, as a poster mentioned there's some liberty on what to up to the AAL, if it's nicely traced and may be used, any fiel will be welcome.

this one look's promising, much more better.
