No person should have to put up with this. Being unhappy in work is unhealthy, it infects your entire life. The only thing you can really do is punch him in the eye.

Serious, tell him you have had enough and drag his sorry ass outside and sort the problem. You will either get killed, get fired or gain respect.

The alternative is you can drop a powered monitor on his head when nobody is looking.

Well, I'm not about to punch him. A former Marine, he's still sporting most of the muscle from his service days. And I have *no* fighting experience (and really don't want any).

He did apologize for it afterwards, though I'm thinking the action was more motivated by not getting fired than it was by actual sorrow.

Boss does know now. I actually wasn't going to mention anything since we had a sit-down, but my other co-worker told him the story.

yet you'd be amazed how effective proving you're CAPABLE of fighting can be.

He yells at you, tell him that the next time he attacks you like that for no good reason, you'll make sure that his ugly wife has to feed him for the next few months while he recovers.

The dig at the wife is to prove you're serious. If he isn't married, just call him stupid.

Carry a sap with ya. Hide behind a doorway. Call him in. When he walks through the door, rap him silly. When he wakes up, tell him he's lucky he didn't end up in the morgue, and to either shut his piehole or call you Mr or Sir when addressing you, and if you so much as see a smirk on his asshat face, you're gonna whack him again.

When he asks you another question that brings you out of the daze that was causing the above daydream, tell him you were dreaming about his wife.

That NEVER sets off pent-up-rage dudes.

Oh, and fighting stops guys from escalating a vendetta against you even further when you whip their ass. Plus, it makes a whole lot of his friends respect you and end up becoming better friends of you than him. Of course, you're not in high school anymore, but fighting damn sure DOES solve some things. Well, WINNING the fight convincingly may have something to do with it also, but I can't be bothered with niggling details.

same here.. except mine are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Corporate Finance, Chemistry, MIS/DBMS Databases.... great.

I just assume these violently macho guys are latent homosexuals, but I was joking anyhow. Even if he is latently homosexual, his reaction is bound to be the same.

In reality, I'd just calmly report everything he does to management, after warning him beforehand about the parameters of what is acceptable. I'd do this until he was either fired, or attacked me, at which point I'd report him to the police and file a lawsuit of some sort.

I love a good fight, but if I'm at work, I'm smart enough to NOT jeopardize my livelihood. Even if I could annihilate the guy, it's just not worth the potential loss in revenue.

I just stood down a dude in my office the other day. Insulted me six-ways of Sunday and I said, "Bob (not his name), this isn't grade school. If you talk to me like that again, I'm taking a trip down to HR." He apologized, and hasn't mouthed off since, as I guess he needs the job.

This may not be as simple, in a small shop...but ultimately, every state has some sort of labor laws that are designed to protect people from harassment. If the job is worth fighting for, fight within the rules.

exactly that's why you make sure to use the words "hostile work environment" in front of the boss. It makes them take action quick as not to end up in a lawsuit for knowing it's going on but not taking any action about it.

but like I said make sure you keep your own documentation of times and dates and events about the situations.
