Sensible Soccer
« on: September 30, 2005, 04:46:44 am »
A little heads up for any sensible soccer fans out there. You may already know but you can buy two megadrive pads with sensible soccer built in from firebox.com. Sensi soccer used to be one of my favourite games on my trusty old amiga and I knew i had to get this pack. Ive got the game for use on various other emulators but it will be much easier to take round to mates for some post pub action than my desktop! There is also Cannon Fodder and Megalo Mania on the system. Cannon fodder is probably my fave game of all time. Im a bit dubious about how well its going to play with a joypad compared to a mouse but im sure ill get used to it.

If you buy the pack from firebox.com you also get a pretty cool free Sensi Soccer t-shirt!!!

Any other Sensi Soccer/Cannon Fodder fans out there?

:D Can't say I've ever played sensible soccer, but Cannon Fodder will always be one of my favourite games... I used to have it on amiga, as well ^^ I have it on about 4 different platforms but the Amiga one takes the cake, the first disc with the Cannon Fodder song and the credits (Norman Wisdom etc. :D) on it was priceless

Yeah the Amiga version was definatly the best. The title song raised a few eyebrows but was brilliant.

"War has never been so much fun...."

Ive been trying to find the rest of the lyrics but I cant seem to find them.

I have the Mega Drive version on my cab now...

Couldn't resist it. I was going to wait until the pads arrived but I just fired up Dgen and had a blast on Sensi, oh my god! At least I know im doing for the rest of the evening! I also tried Cannon Fodder using the arrow keys and I got on quite well. I figure if I can manage with arrow keys then a D-pad shouldn't be too bad. Im not looking forward to trying to control a Skidu with one though!

Hehe ;P
I have practically no woodworking experience.. I err, made a clock once... and a crappy little moneybox, but that was about it. :P
My skills are electronics and thats about it.. so repairing old damaged cabs I can do, making them.. not yet :/ Not that I actually have the room to do so, I'm only 15 and as such have only the shed for my machines (which I can barely walk around in now)
Unfortunate really.. I'm never going to own a mame cab unless I find an old jamma cabinet for cheap (if I ever get any more space..), im totally against mameing any form of dedicated cab if its in a repairable state so that's me buggered unless its a generic cab (silverline etc.) or I make one

I'm an old SWOS (Sensible World of Soccer) player from my Amiga days (as well as the original before that, and Kick Off even longer ago...).

Once I build my upright cab, it's going to have SWOS 96/7 on it (under Amiga emulation, of course), plus other Amiga classics such as Chaos Engine 2, and Speedball 2. These three games should be on everybody's cabinets :)

Dont forget the lemmings! =)
I still have my Amiga out under my TV in my bedroom, that system has so many classics on it, I could never live without it..

I hadn't - I just don't know how well it'd go on a cabinet. Likewise Stunt Car Racer, Lotus Turbo Challenge, or many other great Amiga classics. As great as they are, I'm just not convinced about their use on a cabinet.

I haven't got an Amiga set up currently, but I do have a few of them around the hose waiting for use :)

Stunt car racer, Chaos engine, speedball, lemmings, lotus esprit turbo challenge 2 (does peasoup ring any bells?) All awesome! Lets not forget another world, flashback and robocod!! I suppose we could be here all day remembering old amiga games. I wish I still had mine. Unfortunatly it broke and I tried to fix it but ended up dumping it  :( Think I must have dumped all the games as well  :'( Ive got a 'backup' copy of most of the amiga games catalogue running under amiga forever but ive not used it for a while as I had issues trying to get controllers to work with it, damm it I so want to play turrican 2! I never got on to the later levels as I just had the 1st disc. O the happy days of X-copy (what was the other one?) Plus I loved all of the crack and trainer screens on several games. I just tend to play console ports of the games nowadays as they are easier to run. Slack I know, think I may go have a fiddle with amiga forever as my controller config info is much better than it was last time I used it.

I've got an Amiga 1200 that I hacked into a large PC case. At the time I thought it was awesome. However Amiga emulation has reached the point where an average PC can emulate an Amiga that is far faster than a top of the range A4000. And with emulation you also get a massive hard disk, VGA graphics at full speed etc. So I haven't actually used my real Amiga for several years. But I'd never get rid of it.

The Amiga was the best home computer of the 80s IMHO. It's just a shame that Commodore was run by donkeys.

Ah yes - the great Amiga games. Robocod (and Superfrog to name another one) would be great on a cabinet (Flashback, although a great game, isn't really a cabinet game, IMO).

eBay's your friend - I picked up two A500s (only one working, but I wanted the broken one for another project) for AU $6 recently.

Turrican (1 and 2) would also be great on a cabinet. With an iPac, I imagine that controller configuration should be much easier than it was last time I tried (a couple of years or so)...

I only used X-Copy, so I don't remember other copiers off the top of my head either ;)

I did that with my A4000, as I wanted one of the G3 Phase5 accelerators that never appeared :P ... oh, and a PSU that could handle all my peripherals. In retrospect, I wish I hadn't, as the machine would be much cooler now, but at the time, it was worthwhile.

Donkeys would have been good in comparison to the imbeciles that was in charge. Getting rid of Jack Tramiel in 1984 was the beginning of the end - an end that took a decade and the entire commercial life of the Amiga (and a bit) to end. It really was a shame.

Even now, when Amiga OS4 is (finally) released, I'll have to really fight the urge to buy it. Damn, the Amiga was so far ahead of everything else on the market for so long (even after its commercial demise).

Having an amiga is one of my earliest memories - (I wasnt born when the amiga was first brought out ;P) but having inherited one from my brothers as a childhood computer meant that it grew on me =). I still played it alongside my megadrive, n64 or playstation.. I've always been/always will be a retro gamer at heart, give me an amiga, a megadrive, snes, n64 over a PSP, PS3 or Xbox 360 any day..
