Mouse jacked up?
« on: September 29, 2005, 10:40:01 am »
I gave my brother in law and his family a complete PC after he lost everything in a house fire.  I joked with him I was happy to help, but now I would be responsible for support.

Well, I got my first support call yesterday

He says he needs to keep his mouse pointer about 1-2 inches below an icon, or start button, to click on it.  Normally, a reboot will fix it for a few minutes, but the problem will reappear within an hour or two.

I've been searching google, no help.

I'm thinking it's either a video or mouse driver issue.  I'm going to bring another mouse too just in case.

Anyone ever seen this?

Thanks, Art

What kind of mouse is it?  Optical or trackball?

It's old school ps/2 with ball on the bottom.

Update.  It works fine as long as he is actively using it.  if he goes away from computer for any period of time, it's messed up.

screen saver doing something?

I'd try reinstalling the mouse driver before I bought anything.

I'll bring an extra mouse from here.  It just doesn't seem like hardware.  Some kind of driver has got to be bad.

The video card in there is a number nine.  SO, there are no new drivers, ever, as they are out of business.

It's hard enough just to find the darn things.

Thanks

If you can't figure out whats causing the problem you may be able to work around it by using a usb mouse since it would use a different driver.

All AOL users should be quarantined to their own island with no outside contact with the rest of the world
