Most people never get one.  I got my first about 2 years ago, 8-9 years after getting my license.

I got one not long ago for doing 40 in a 35, and I was about 20 feet from being in the 45 MPH zone.

They can pull you over 2 miles into the 45 zone if they clocked you in the 35.

This is a situation where I'd much rather just stew about it than listen to reason and logic. :)

Stewing is useless. I don't know why but I feel really good about it. Probably because I'm getting a $3000 tax return next week as well.  ;D

And I'll have to be a good boy for about a month before putting the pedal to the metal again.

TheNasty, if you were the only one on the highway, who pulled you over?  Yourself?

I realised now doing bad driving things at night is dumb because you stick out like dogs balls. During the day, in heavy traffic is better. Lesson=don't speed/(insert traffic stupidity here) while it's dark.

Nope, No speeding... I was at 60 on a 65. Been more than 15 years since the last speeding ticket I got (and learned from it). Now I learned that I must put my BLINKER EVEN IF I AM THE ONLY JERK ON THE HIGHWAY.....THANK YOU PIG for teaching me...I aint gonna give you another RAISE on your salary.

At that late hour on the PARKWAY, I was the only one on the road for miles......And I know that its a ticket trap when your alone, hence I did not SPEED...so I figured changed lane from the middle to the right lane and that did it.

you don't even think that for a second.
I was very cheerful when he pulled me over. He ignored the fact I could have lost my license for a month for going so fast and he ignored the big rusty dent on the back which could have made my car un-roadworthy.

Either that or he was very lazy. Probably lazy, cause it took him 5 minutes to catch up with me.

I was surprised how low the speed limits are in Oz, at least on the roads in the middle of nowhere.  In WA aren't a lot of them 60 or 70 K's??  Here we can do 60 or 70 MPH, and the roads are usually a lot less safe than in Oz (bar the Roos of course)...

What's a good radar detector/scrambler?

I get one every other year, so it would be a good investment that will save me some cash, and aggravation.

I got a ticket three weeks ago, and put it in my bills to pay pile, by the time I got around to paying it I read "mail within 5 days", I was two weeks late, now I have to go to court and hope the judge gives me supervision.  Otherwise I'll lose 120 bucks, the day I spend at the court house last week, getting my new court date, the day in court getting "judged" plus another day going to traffic school.

Sometimes, though, it is safer to speed than to not speed.

This weekend, I was on 495 (three lane major highway in MA).  My car started to limp a bit, so I pulled right and limited to 65.  Cars were passing me like I was standing still and it sure didn't feel safe.  At one point a tractor trailer nearly wiped me off the road passing me.

Believe it or not; you pretty much have to double the speed limit in order to be hauled off.

In MA there are certain speeds at which you are always hauled off.  The lower ones are a % over the limit, but I think 100 gets you hauled off every time for reckless driving and maybe driving to endanger.

This website, Ticket Assassin has some awesome information about how to get out of speeding tickets.  Although they're set in California, and deal with California traffic law, there's a LOT of really good stuff on there about tickets and police in general.

getting ticket on the spot when you get cuaght speeding is one thing, how about getting a ticket in the mail for speeding......Yeap, heard it thru my buddy that this person(s) got a ticket on the mail for speeding...How you say ? Well from his Ez-Pass....from point A to point B, they calculated it that this Ez-pass owner was doing 90 miles an hour. Another reason for me not to get an Ez-Pass......

Considering how slow it is to get through an EZ pass gate half the time, he must have been going 100+ to have it calculated as 90.

I got a speeding ticket about a year ago 75 mph in a 65 mph zone.

insurance company wanted to jack my prices up, I called them and questioned the reasoning for a $100 increase (I pay every six months). I told them this is the first ticket I've had in at least 7 years. They reduced my premium back to what is was before the ticket.

moral to the story if the insurance company raises your premiums call them it may be worth it.......

A buddy of mine told me about this girl(s) got a frozen hot dog...

I personally drive through an I-Pass every day to work and back that has a speed detector it.  It shows you the speed your going and what the posted speed is.  I'm always going 70, and the posted speed through the I-Pass is 30.  I have yet to see a ticket in the mail.

You won't need it when you misjudge the opening by a foot and end up kissing your windshield at 70mph.   :o

No thats what I meant,  He got a ticket when he entered POINT A thru POINT B. Calculated at 90 miles and hour. It should have taken the driver let say 1hour 15 mins to POINT B and it took him 45 minutes to get to point B.

Right, but if you have varying velocities, then the actual top speed is much higher than the average speed.  The average speed would be all that they could calculate.  Given that it can take a few minutes of 0-5mph to get through the line to the gate, his top speed must have been far higher than the average speed.

You're confused because you're not suppose to be keeping track of the speed of the train.  You need to pay attention to which stop the guy in the red hat exits the train.

Almost everyday for 2 years on the way home from work I would see over 210 on my speedo. I had a particular marker where I could get off the gas so I could stop in time for the the traffic lights if they were red. Never once got a speeding fine and haven't had one for over 5 years.

I used to get home and my body would still be shaking from the adrenalin overload.

It's remarkably easy to beat a traffic ticket if you have the time and inclination to go to court (or, in some states, just go through the mail).  How do you think trial lawyers put food on the table in between criminal cases?  If you know the laws, your rights, and can familiarize yourself with courtroom procedure then the odds are very good you can get your ticket dismissed.

I've had 4 speeding tickets in my first 11 years driving. None in the last 4.

95mph on a freeway on-ramp. The CHiP knocked it down to 75mph.
45mph in a 35mph (street).
80kph in a 45kph (no fair! there was a big hill--gravity took over!)
150kph on freeway (limit is 100kph). They knocked it down to 149 otherwise I'd have had the car towed on the spot.

Here's something really weird... Ever heard about the theory a couple years ago that if you listen to fast, agressive music (say speed metal or really energetic techno) while driving, you are more likely to speed? Well I was listening to the exact same song when I got my last two tickets... and they were a couple years apart! What I'm not sure about is whether it CAUSES speeding, or it just causes DISTRACTION, so you don't notice the cops!
NO MORE!!

More speed stories?
I drove from from O.C. California to Detroit in 3 days. There are two main ways to go. Either along the southern route (I think it's the i40?) or diagonally through Colorado. Since it was late winter, I took the southern route. Average top speed was 115.
Yeah, racing a long stretch just feels so good. I drove from Milan to Amsterdam (1025 km or 637 miles) in 8 hours ("normal" time is 10 to 12 hours). I did take all the "mandatory" 2 hour rest stops (my car actually starts beeping if I drive for 2 hours and I then stop for 15 minutes) and a visit to the swiss customs to get some money back (which took me half an hour). Top speed varied between 220 km/h and 260km/h (135mph - 160mph).

The first two years I had my license I had my choice of driving either a 1981 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham or a 1988 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight (this was in 2001-2002), so needless to say, speeding was not a problem.

It'd take me blocks to get that Caddy up to speed and the Olds is just a beater that doesn't like to go over 55mph.  That Caddy was the smoothest ride EVER though.... man I miss that car.

I've never gotten a speeding ticket yet, but I had some close calls.  This of course only happens in my dad's newer Caddy since the Olds is still alive and kicking (sorta) and still doesn't like to go over 55.

I can't wait to graduate and get a new car.. although I hope I don't get any tickets haha

Sorry, forgot to mention it was KPH.

Really what it boiled down to is 65 in a 40 (mph). An unmarked Politie was on the side of the road and flashed me as I was rushing to get to the bank before they closed.

Ive NEVER driven a car, that i didnt know inside and out, that fast.. if i dont know the car, it gets babied until i know it well enough to really push it

What's a good radar detector/scrambler?
Scramblers are generally illegal and I think you would be in more trouble if caught than just paying the ticket.

AFAIK, detectors are only illegal in Virginia and one other small state (forget which).

Best rated detector is usually the Valentine One (about $400, I think), followed by the Escort/Passport/Solo (about $200, I think), although I'm not sure how much better these are than the $50 Cobra - Whistler - etc. types.

Bottom line is they work pretty well in traffic where you pick up the reflections of traffic in front of you, but if you the only car on the freeway, the police tend to use "instant on" so you get "tone and lock", nail the brakes, and still see the blue lights in the rearview mirror.

Thanks Tiger-Heli, I live in Illinois were the laws are written for the criminals so a radar scrambler is legal, so I'll be protected if the cop is using the "instant on" method.  I try not to speed outside of Illinois because other states don't like criminals and I can't ask to see the radar if I'm pulled over.  I tried it once in Michigan when I knew he didn't catch me at the speed the officer was claiming.
