My New Motorcycle
« on: August 29, 2005, 09:24:57 am »
The first pic is a photo of the bike I just got.  It's a 1977 Honda CB400F.   8)

The second pic is a pic of me and my father in 1986 (?) with his 1976 Honda CB400F.

I'm so excited to ride it, but I don't have insurance yet.  Hopefully by the weekend.

What do you think?

(and yes, the bike is older than me)

Your dad needed a new pair of jeans.

Green is NOT your color.

There's no bacon in those pictures.

what?  OHHHHHH! Are you sure he meant the bike?  OK.

I like that bike in yellow.

you jus tplan on riding that around the city, right?  400cc is a little small.

The bike looks like it is in great condition for how old it is.  It;s a current fad to collect those late 70s and early 80s bikes right now.  hard to find any with no rust or a good seat.  I'm suprized you don't have a torn seat.  Wonder if it is original....

Anyway, the Hond ainline 4 from that time is a pretty torque engine.  Should be fun.

I'll take it on the highway.  But I don't think I'll be road-tripping with it.

For the CB400F purists:
- the seat has been recovered.  But it is really nice.  Not plain like a lot of the others I have seen.
- the muffler is not riginal, but like the seat, it is very close to original
- the front fender is from a 75 or 76.
- The sidecovers have been painted

But I am not a purist.  I just wanted a bike that I thought looked good and that would run well.

I got the rest of my gear today.

Tomorrow the appraiser is coming.  I need an apprasal for the insurance company cause it's older than 25 years old.  Insurance s going to kill me.

The bike cost $2,000 but I'm getting $850 back from my credit card for my rewards (get the Citibank Drivers Edge Platanum card...  2% of all of my purchases towards the purchase or lease of any new or used vehicle)

Insurance for a 28 year old 400cc motorcycle is going to kill you?  I have ZERO experience with motorcycle insurance, but that sounds veyr odd to me.  I would think it was very cheap to insure.

Sweet ride. 8) I'm a vintage Honda junkie, those 400F's are sought after.
I'd like to see some hi-res pics if you've got.

Here's a CB360 I just restored for my wife. This one has the original pipes and seat, only 5000 miles. I swapped out the bars for a straighter set and added some comfortable grips for her..

BTW insurance for a year is $500 on this little guy...I think Winnipeg is pretty cheap though.

Um, try a different insurance company. My bike is 20+ years old, and all I had to do was go to the progressive website and order the dang insurance, it was $75 for a year.

You aren't thinking of getting full coverage on that, are you?

Man, that thing looks really uncomfortable.
Actually it was very comfortable. Sure if you were 7ft tall and 300 pound it would challenge the comfort register, but all said and done this shape fits the human profile very well. If you get the chance, throw a leg over one, get somebody to hold the front wheel and just settle in and relax. The riding position will surprise.

In very heavy traffic it did get heavy on the wrists after an hour or so but you are always going to get this on any sports bike besides, it encourages a tight stomach.  8)

I am getting sad now. I miss my bike.

Sweet ride there MPB.

I started with a little CB125S, the traded up to a  '75 CB750F when the motor on the 125 blew up on the freeway.

I'm up to 5 different bikes now, including another CB750F I bought from a guy with a garage full of CB400Fs. They aren't the fastest, or best handling bikes, but I wouldn't trade my old 750 for anything.

@Bones: This enough donk for ya? ;)

Eh, borderline. I'm 5'11" have a size 40 waist, and my weight varies between 235 and 245.

It is more the fact that I don't like leaning forward, I like sitting up. I borrowed a friend's sport bike several times a few years back when I had gotten down below 200, and I still thought it was uncomfortable.

Hmmm... There are differences in sportsbikes.

250cc sports bikes are small, very small. 600cc and 1000cc bikes are roughly the same size these days. If it was one of the larger bikes you rode, and you were still uncomfortable, well I dunno....

I have also ridden sports bikes that were uncomfortable, it is a very personal thing. 20 minutes on a CBR600 and I was sore as hell and I was used to the aggressive riding position.

Everything I rode was Japanese in the 600-750cc range. A Ninja and a CBR for sure, there was another one as well.

CBR1000RR Firebalde  ;D

I rode the CBR600 for about 20 miles, and it damn near killed me. It was so small and cramped up. The Blade is a much bigger bike and much more comfortable because of it.

Yeah, it is the 05 model. The bikes about 3 months old now.

I didn't ride anything else, and to be honest, I bought the Blade without riding it.

I'd wanted one for years and years, and last time I looked (about 5 years ago) insurance was about
