Can someone carfax this VIN for me?

Had a pretty bad scooter accident while I was on vacation, so I might very well replace both that and the burb with a subcompact, and this one is the specific kind that I want.

How bad? Hit by a car or pilot error?

Pilot error/possible mechanical error.

On thursday I laid my scooter down going about 35-38 miles an hour. No broken bones, but there was a huge amount of lost skin (all I was wearing was swim trunks and a helmet).

I am not actually sure what happened, I was going around a turn and the thing went down, chain was off the bike when I got to it, maybe that caused it, as I went down right when I began to accellerate out of the turn). I had been having problems with the chain and rear sprocket all week and had actually already phoned home to have a friend order a new chain and sprocket for me.

Amazingly enough all the injuries were limited to my limbs (despite the fact that I was shirtless). I am recovering now, but I was almost completely useless (and in terrible pain) for several days. I am still in some pain, and still have some fuctional issues do to massive road rash wounds, but I should be as good as new in a few more weeks.

The scooter itself MIGHT be repairable with only a new taillight, but most probably I need new handlebars and one of the pieces inside the front steering area as well.

First few days after the injury were terrible, I wasn't able to sleep at all until the 3rd night (got 3 hours that night, with the help of sleeping pills), got six hours last night (with the help of some prescription painkillers my mom gave me.

Sleeping is the big problem, because I am used to sleeping on my side, and the MOST painful position possible for me right now is laying on my side, second most painful position is laying on my back.

Ouch.....

Well there is a positive. The cuts & bruises will heal, skin is designed to recover quickly. You are probably lucky going at that speed not to have injuries that require surgery and time in plaster.

I cringe when I see these mad ---daisies--- on scooters and bikes without reasonable clothing protection.

Our injuries were completely opposite. I broke a stack on bones but had zero skin missing, I think I know which one I would choose given the choice.

A big fat joint will help kill the pain and help you sleep, so I hear....

No joints for me, although I did get some painkillers from both my mom and one of my friends. My lack of medical insurance kept me from getting my own prescription.

I'm more mad about the damaged bike (and the ticket I got for parking it on grass earlier that week), and the driver's side windshield that got broken on the RV later that week. That stuff won't heal by itself, I will.

Yes, free unprescribed expired medicine is much better for you than natures green. (I threw in "expired" for no other reason than I do things like that.)

I can't help you with that other stuff. Well I could, but that would involve me giving you money and I won't be doing that.

Be well Paige.  People think that you can't get hurt much on a scooter, I wrecked my neck and shoulder at about 20-25 mph 20 yrs ago.  Didn't help that I was drunk at the time and trying to BMX jump some hills in the park next to the bar!  DOH!  ::)
Take care.

Sorry to hear about it, but glad to know it didn't envolve anyone throwing rocks at you. ;)

Been there, done that as far as the road rash. I layed down my first bike wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I had a scab on my right arm from my mid forearm to my shoulder, and my right leg from my upper calf to ---my bottom--- cheek. It's a lesson that's stuck with me, if it's too hot to ride in leathers it too hot to ride, period.

Have you rashed areas started itching yet? Once they start healing they will itch like crazy.

Keep you bike, you've payed your dues and should be good for a long time.

I never ever wore leathers in summer. You just can't ride with comfort worrying about how much your ass crack is sweating, if you are not comfortable then your mind is not on the job at hand and that itself is more dangerous.

But there is a difference between riding with a pair of jeans, boots and gloves as opposed to riding bareback as paige will probably now agree with.

Chicks dig scars, this strange fact may help offset any short term pain.

Anymore I simply park the bike for the summer and break out my Jet-Ski.

Hey, can anybody carfax one for me too? Sorry to be a mooch, but my old fart car ('87 Buick Park Ave.) died and I found a replacement. I just don't have a carfax account. The VIN is JH4DC4469XS004219. Thanks.

My condolences, Paige. I hope for a speedy recovery.

Come on - you were asking for it. Everyone knows to get a full leather racing getup for when driving a scooter: Full face helmet, reinforced leather jacket with red flame stripes, full leather pants with kneepads and of course steel-tipped leather boots!

It's all the rage in Europe, and Ohio!

It's not like Ford V8s are hard to find or particularly hard to install. I was certainly talking about the 'Stang. Give that car to me and you wouldn't recognise it in six months. Needs to be another color too, but that only takes time & elbow grease.

Doesn't matter too much to me, gas mileage is so low, and repairs are so easy that I am going to simply fix everything that goes wrong with it. At current gas prices it should use $62 a month in gas. My Suburban would use $260. That leaves $200 a month to use for repairs. A single year with a $200 month repair budget on a METRO could replace every mechanical component on the entire car.

Or buy a better car to start with.
I work on my stuff because I'm pretty fanatical about maintenance and I don't really trust anyone else to do it. I don't find it particularly enjoyable, just another thing I have to do. Have you added up all the money you've spent saving money?  ;)

I'm thinking you could have a pretty decent $6,000 used car for your lateral moves and trade ups.

Yeah, it was nice to fill up the car with 8 gallons of gas every 2 weeks. I dumped mine when the repair costs got to around $300 a month (new car payment was $289). I no longer own a car, it's much cheaper that way. ;D

How much money will you lose, in insurance paid, taxes paid, value change, etc when you sell the Suburban, though?

Actually I think I am just going to keep the Suburban and leave it parked, keep it licensed, but not insured, and just let it run for a while once a month. That way if I have a vehicle emergency then I immediately have another vehicle I can switch to simply by calling the insurance company and switching the coverage over. With gas prices going up, up, up I simply wouldn't be able to get anything for a rusty Suburban, so I am just gonna save it for future use.
