Hong Kong Phooey Theme???
« on: June 24, 2005, 12:39:43 am »
Planning my first cab.

Has anybody used Hong Kong Phooey as artwork?

I thought this would be cool for the marquee:

w/ text saying Hong Kong Phooey - Entercade or Tooncade or Retrocade

One of these for one side panel:

one of HKP dressed as a janitor on the other side panel and polie cat Spot by the coin door.

and all the characters on the control panel:

Penry (aka Hong Kong Phooey), Rosemary, police cat Spot and Sarge

More pics:

I suck @ artwork. So I would need somebody to vectorize. Thoughts, opinions, suggestions? Or should I go with a Superfly or Scarface (movies) or Motown theme?

dude, you so need a cool name for that.  Hong Cade Phooey, or maybe just Arcade Phooey.  what a great cartoon man.  all you need now is for you to jump into the coin box and pop out an asteroid or something.

That's an awesome idea for a theme. I really wish I would have thought of it first. :)

That's great!  I love Hong Kong Phooey!

You even have a head start.  Someone has already vectorized one of your images:

Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Yea, I saw that. Thanks! ;D If shading and coloring was added to the Vector image would it remain a vector? I want it similar to the one above. I wish I had graphic art skills.

Hong Kong Phooey, number one super guy.
Hong Kong Phooey, quicker than the human eye.

He's got style, a groovy style,
and a car that just won't stop.
When the going gets tough, he's really rough,
with a Hong Kong Phooey chop (Hi-Ya!)

Hong Kong Phooey, number one super guy.
Hong Kong Phooey, quicker than the human eye.
Hong Kong Phooey, he's fan-riffic (gong!)
should be ... could be ... what it is baby!

Depends on how its added. It certainly CAN be done and keep everything vector. If I can find some time I'll take a stab at adding some shading to the EPS file that was linked to above.

Here's a *very* quick version (5-10 minutes) just to give you an idea of what kind of shading can be done in vector. This is pretty much accomplished using the "blend" function in Illustrator, taking two different shapes of different tones and blending mulitple steps between them.

Compare to the original vector file...

5 to 10 minutes! WOW!  :o That would take me 5 to 10 days. So do you just select the area, select the two colors, and it automatically shades? Sorry, I'm artistically challenged.

Yeah, I was forced to figure out how to do some color blending in my RoadBlasters art.  It's not TOO hard depends how much you're doing and stuff.  Once you get the hang of it, I don't think it's too bad.

Basically, you have the main shape and you create a second shape within the first one. For example, if your main shape is a red square you could create a dark red shape that ran along the bottom and the right side of that square but not the top or left. You then blend between them and Illustrator will create the steps between the shapes and make it look as if light is hitting the shape from the upper-left.

Hopefully this makes sense.
