If you are using a T64 card in Dos with AdvanceMAME, please see my question in the software forum:

Thanks,
Todd

You'll need to be a little more specific.  What's the resolution of the vertical games that look small?

You also need to beaware, that no matter what setup you use, be it ArcadeVGA or AdvanceMAME, vertical games on a horizontal monitor will always look like crap.  The only exception would be kortek or wellsgardner multisync arcade monitors using AdvanceMAME.  Otherwise, vertical games will typically look bad -- stretching, interlacing, dropped lines, out of vsync.  There is no perfect solution to vertical games on a standard resolution arcade monitor, only comprimises.

Desmatic,

Thank you for the reply.  This is a vertical setup  (vertical games only) so the monitor is oriented vertically and the ror setting in AdvanceMAME is set to "yes."  I've only tried Centipede, Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and 1942 initially.  All appeared small, only using about half of the available screen.  I'll try to post a picture later so you can get an idea of what I'm dealing with.

Thanks again,
Todd

I see.  Yeah, both of those games use 224 lines.  The default setup is for 240 lines, which mean those games should have a 224/240 = 7% border.

Vertically oriented monitors, while very cool, severely limit the number of games that will look perfect.  Only games using 240 lines will look perfect.  From
http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/html/monito12.htm you can see that this is a very select subset of a very large list.  Roughly a hundred or so games out of several thousand.

hmm...well I think I'm getting a little more than a 7% border.  I've attached a pic from ArcadeOS and one running Centipede.  Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Todd

Yep.  Something is definitely wrong.  I wonder if it's an advancemame bug, or if my configuration is goofed.  I never actually tested easycab using a vertical setup, so I'll have to look into it.  I may not get a chance to finalize and test a new easycab build until this weekend coming.  I'll deffinitely sort through this though.

I assume you're just using the defaults setup by my CD, yeah?

Yes.  The default setup:

1.  ArcadeOS and AdvanceMame at 15Khz
2.  Trident T64
3.  Tried both 240 and 224 lines and results are the same

I've been looking at Purple's site in an effort to troubleshoot.  Looks like he uses VBE /l in the autoexec (from AdvanceCab) in addition to the Trident TSR.  Not sure if this is the problem.

Let me know if you have any ideas.  BTW, EasyMAMECab is great.  I used it a while back with an ATI PCI card on another set up.  I appreciate your hard work.

It doesn't really matter which tsr you use.  Easycab sets up the best one given which video card you are using.   The issue has something to do with either a configuration that I've overlooked or an AdvanceMAME bug.  I'll update easycab this weekend and fix the problem.  The current version is a bit old anyways.

It looks to me like it is displaying it as a HORIZONTAL game, but then rotated onto your vertical setup, with the end result being squished. This is how horizontal games can be made to display correctly on a vertical monitor. But your vertical games should not have special settings to rotate the image or anything.

NO MORE!!

Thanks for the reply RayB.  I'm sure it's something simple.  When I use the "other video card" option using easymamecab cd, I get a nice rotated image on some games but still not perfect.  For example, Burger Time 240x240 doesn't really work and there are many others that are off.  I'd much rather use the Trident TSR if I can figure it out.
