Fraggal Boot CD
« on: April 16, 2005, 08:20:03 pm »
Thought I'd give it a whirl.

It's quite out of date now, so I thought I'd update it.  The files are easy enough, but the booting I couldn't figure out.  What's its story?

Creating a bootable CD is tricky. I can't remember how its done anymore. Probably the easiest thing to do would be to take Fraggals's ISO image, delete the out of date files and add the new ones using UltraISO or WinISO.

Yup, used UltraISO.  Updated some tools.  Took the optimized versions off the disc, and replaced it with .95.  Going to give it a go, hopefully it's still bootable!

Well...it worked.  Quite well, too.  Thanks for the tip on UltraISO.

Now I just have to find a place to put the image.

Oh yeah, one question regarding AdvMame.

When I want to exit, you hit [ESC] of course.  But in AdvMame it gives you a choice, exit or continue.  Is there a way to make a default exit, instead of giving you the choice?

You can disable safequit in the advmame.rc config file.

Quote
Activates safe quit mode. If enabled, to stop the emulation, you need to confirm on a simple menu.

misc_safequit yes | no

Options:
   no    Disabled.
   yes    Enabled (default).

If the file `event.dat' (specified with the `misc_eventfile' option) is found the exit menu is shown only if one or more coins are inserted or if you are playing.

I've got space, I'm just worried about bandwidth issues.

I found a torrent, but it's years old.  I probably have it archived somewhere, but I do not know where.

If someone can up it, I'll host for a while.

How outdated is this project?  Is there any interest in getting it going with a 64 build?  Seems that all the programing is already out there and it should be a matter of putting it all together.

Putting it all together sounds like a big task, but count me interested if you do!

Modernizing it to work as a bootable USB flash drive might be a cool feature; a virtual retro arcade on your keychain.  :o

Searching for Zwackery, not because it's rare, because it's fun.

Agreed always liked the simplicity of this build and the dos aspect ;) finding sound cards which could run dos became a nightmare.
