Sorry. No Memogate here. I guess we're suppose to believe a Senator from Florida handed out a memo on the floor of the senate without ever reading it.

Can't wait for the flood of mea culpas from the conservative blogosphere. */crickets*

Isn't this what the Democrats wanted? For the person who wrote the memo to be discovered and punished?

Isn't this what the Democrats wanted? For the person who wrote the memo to be discovered and punished?

Before or after the Dems were blamed for creating it?

Sen. Bennet:
Sen. Robert F. Bennett, Utah Republican, said the issue "stinks" of a news fabrication similar to the one that engulfed CBS anchorman Dan Rather during the 2004 presidential campaign, after he reported that President Bush did not fulfill his duties while in the National Guard, citing documents that CBS later admitted could not be authenticated.

Tucker Carlson:
"Last week a memo surfaced, reportedly written by the Republican members of Congress explaining how to make hay with the Terri Schiavo case, the Talking Points Memo, Ah, I think within a week or two it will become clear that that memo was a forgery, possibly written by Democrats on the hill in an effort to discredit Republicans. Bloggers are saying that now and it sounds like they may be right."

Fred Barnes:
"So rather than an example of aggressive reporting, the memo story turns out to be yet another instance of crude liberal bias, in this case against both Republicans and those who fought to have Schiavo's feeding tube restored. Naturally, the memo had a second life when the story was picked up by other news outlets, pundits, and columnists. How did ABC and others get wind of the memo in the first place? It came from 'Democratic aides,' according to the New York Times, who 'said it had been distributed to Senate Republicans.' Not exactly a disinterested source."

Newsmax:
There was just one problem: Closer examination by The American Spectator, talk show hosts Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, The Weekly Standard, and Accuracy in Media (AIM) indicates that the memo is a fraud - a political dirty trick, if you will, specifically aimed at causing public revulsion at Republicans.

Rush Limbaugh:
"Truth Detector: Supposed GOP Schiavo Memo Forged by Democrats."

Michelle Malkin:
I suspect that no one at the Post or ABC News still believes the amateurish, unsigned, misspelled memo was circulated by Republican Party leaders.

Accuracy in Media:
Accuracy in Media today questioned the authenticity of the much-publicized "GOP Talking Points" memo on the Terri Schiavo case.

Powerline: (Blog of the year?!)
In the meantime, there is not a bit of evidence connecting the memo to any Republican, and, for all of the reasons we have repeatedly spelled out on this site, there are excellent reasons to believe it is a hoax perpetrated by still-unidentified Democrats.

This is more about dismantling the right-wing echo chamber and getting to the truth. If you are really comfortable with the "staffer as fall guy" scenario, then I guess you'd consider this story over. Me, I still think it reeks...

In an effort to work and form a bipartisan coalition, I say we ask Sandy Berger to look at the document and stuff it down his pants, since destruction and removal of classified documents is evidently something not worth caring about, this memo should gain even LESS notoriety if he ganks it. I don't even care where he stuffs it....socks, pants....heck, makes a diaper and puts his junk all over it and craps in it.

For someone who rails over and over again about the war, you certainly seem not the slightest bit concerned about "getting to the truth" of whether the guy with the khaki doc(uments)kers destroyed or took, and the why behind his actions. Even your nose is partisan, since this doesn't reek at all to you ::)

For all the "appealing to the core" of the party claims, I'm wondering how that could be, since you've demonstrated that America was behind your opinion on this case...not just Democrats, America! Nothing adds up there, yet it's a top story. An NSA is stealing and destroying classified documents and it's a top story.....on page 12?

Kinda funny Mr Lauten(Sandy)berg(er) would say "Those who would attempt to influence debate in the United States Senate should not hide behind anonymous pieces of paper". The people looking to influence debate on his side didn't have to hide behind anonymous pieces of paper....they made the pieces of paper anonymous.

NOW you wish to castigate someone for not reading memos, yet any Dem who couldn't be bothered to read memos relating to Iraq (Ms Boxer, Mr Kerry, anybody home?) was given a pass by you? They should ALL be reading the crap they have typed up, but to now jump on your sanctimonious soapbox? How was it put? "Hippocrit"?

Hey, you're prolly in a better position to tell us...ol' Sandy didn't suffer any nasty paper cuts did he? :o

I say we ask Sandy Berger...

ROFL....You are so predictable Drew. I figured you'd at least get one paragraph out before you pulled the ole' blame game and totally ignored the story, but you didn't even last that long.

Let me help you with your future posts, just type the corresponding number from now on, because that'd certainly be more relevant than the novella's you end up posting:

1) Clinton did it!
2) Dems do it too!
3) ::) (I'm sleepy, must ignore facts.)
4) Dan Rather!!!!

I didn't read the rest of your post since I'm sure it's more irrelevant drivel like the first sentence.

Get back to me when you can actually write through the sting of having to admit a GOP'er got caught. I've already said Berger was an idiot and should be held accountable, but you can't even seem to comprehend the idea of holding people responsible unless they're "from the other side."

The guy behind the memo held himself responsible and resigned.

Gore lost, and since I voted for Bush, I would like to hold myself responsible for that.

These ideas are lost on you because you can't even seem to comprehend the idea of people holding themselves responsible for their own actions.

I saw Keifer Sutherland do it on 24 in the course of defending our country from terrorists.

If you prevent this sort of patriotic act, the Terrorists win.

I'd like to see your words to that effect, since they seem to have gone missing.

It also seems "he's an idiot" as a judgement pales in comparison to the dreck you wish to post about conservatives. Your words read as if this memo is a far worse offense than stealing and destroying classified government documents. I can understand, though. Berger was working for your pope. His motives were good, therefore, he's just an idiot.

Thanks for the guideline. I'll work on it if you promise to find something to stick with in your diatribes, or if you finally find something conservatives have done that you agree with completely. Ahhh, there's the rub. Conservatives will do the right thing, but they'll always do it for all the wrong reasons. Thankfully, Americans are so retarded they can't see the wrongheadedness of it all, and the God Squad can brainwash them into ignoring your esoteric arguments.

I'd like to see your words to that effect, since they seem to have gone missing.

I'd hunt for them if it had any relevance to the topic at hand, but it doesn't...unless you are suggesting the Sandy Berger authored the Schiavo Talking Points memo, which, in that case makes you insane...and this back and forth becomes even more absurd.

Also, last I heard Berger pled guilty and will be punished. The GOP'er in this case just passed the buck and blamed a staffer. Par for the course, I guess.

Again, this is apples to oranges...I, in no way, think the Schiavo memo is on par with classified government documents, but that doesn't mean it isn't important. Although I'm sure you'll continue to write it off and ignore it.

Frankly, anything the points out the rank hypocrisy running rampant throughout the party that claims to stand for morality and ethics is fair game in my book.

Clinton did get a blowjob and then lied about it, but then again, he never claimed to be a Saint like our Dear Leader Bush (who still can't think of any mistakes he's made) and his holy apostles (DeLay, Hastert, Santorum, Frist, et al.)

The Schiavo memo exposes, what is to me, the true motivations of the Republican agenda...manipulation of the Christian right, power at any cost.

You are the one who brought it up.

You don't "hunt", or as the rest of us like to put it "research", anything. Nothing in this topic has any relevance, so it really doesn't matter.

The only relevant thing in this topic was when I said BUSH WON!!!

When did I say "BUSH WON!!!" you ask? If you do a little "hunting" you'll see I said it in the sentence above this one.

FACT: The Republican Congress is not popular and the Republican president is not popular with a majority of the American people. Suck. on. that.

Doesn't bother me. You know what is popular? 50 Cent. American Idol. Digital theft. Unprotected sex. Heroin.

Popularity is no indicator of anything worthwhile.

LOL. Definitely hard to argue against that. To me, Bush fits right into your list of things that are dumbing America down.

I can't think of any real debate against this, either.
