Advancemame 0.62.2 vs. 0.94 HELP!
« on: March 30, 2005, 06:51:15 pm »
 ???

Does anybody know why a small ROM file like Ikari Warriors runs great on my machine in AdvanceMame 0.62.2 and is slow.....jittery.....w/shaky sound in AdvanceMame 0.94. This is most troubling as I can't run many of the ROMS that I would like because they are not supported in AdvanceMame 0.62.2. My 2 questions are:

1. Why would 0.62.2 run Ikari fine and 0.94 is jittery/jumpy/slow in sound and movement? Could it be a setting?

2. If I must use 0.62.2, is there any way to get newer ROMS to work with it? (I think I know this unfortunate answer)

Thanks for any help!

In short ,NO.

mame 0.62 is an old version of mame while mame 9.4 is the new one.
Always remember that mame always upgrade its code with every rekease to reach at original arcade board's level, thats why it usually update it self as well as its Roms.A lot of new CPU'shas been  added to  enhance its game list in mame 9.4.

You can't do any trick to play all newer games in mame 6.2.

The only option is to still use an old version or upgrade your hardware;)

Generally speaking, MAME degrades in performance, sometimes significantly, every few releases or so.  If you're looking to play a lot of the games that have been emulated for a while you're probably going to want to stick with the older version of MAME, unless your hardware can handle it.

That's why you see a lot of people here run more than one version of MAME, depending on which  ROM they want to load.

I know it seems a little weird.. I mean, why would degrading in performance be a good thing?   Well, as more and more games get emulated they also get more and more complex.  In order to have streamlined and organized code in MAME, updating drivers for the game platform will affect all games that run on that platform.

HTH.

Thanks for your help. After looking closely it is not so much the same game (ikari) is slower in .94 than .62, but the sound stutters, playing each "sound" twice in .94. Any ideas?
