Tommy there are lots of games that aren't playable in Mame. Try Carnevil, it's the same way.

Mame is an emulator, and that means it has to pretend to be a complete control system for another system.  Carnevil and Crusin USA are working off systems designed for graphic speeds.  Your PC can't keep up, because it can't process the data that fast.

From what HowardC told me, and he's da man on these issues, you need raw computing speed to run mame. The graphic cards are nice, and the ram is nice, but 1.7GHZ won't cut it.

When they get to 5 GHZ or better, it may run.  But for now, it's just doing the best it can.

Some of the games will need a 5 - 10GHz PC to run at full speed.

yes.

But you still won't get Crusin' to run correctly.  What we are saying is there are a few games that just WON'T run on any hardware that is available today.

To be more exact you need to wait about 3 years until computers are available that can handle the game. I remember waiting for STUN Runner!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not true.  A friend of mine installed a laptop CPU into a desktop mobo and was able to hit 5 ghz without even raising voltage.  Once he raised voltage and multiplier, and overclocked, he hit around 7 ghz.  This was like 6 months ago and it still runs nice and stable (no errors at all).

Funny how people who run overclocking websites who do this stuff daily and are experts at it need liquid nitrogen to overclock stuff that fast, but your friend can do it with absolute stability without raising voltage.

I smell BS.  Put on your boots everyone.

Can you even mount a laptop processor in a desktop these days? The last few laptops I gutted had processors that were totally different form factors than any desktop ones.

Last time I checked Mobile processors used a different socket for the CPU at least on the intel front. Also using power stepping technology, it could be a variable frequency, but it wouldn't exceed the multiplier x bus speed configured.

You can make a movie out of it (with MAME Movie Maker) and the movie will run at full speed. That's about as good as you're going to get.

What rom name is that, anyway?

I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

Don't know if you thought of exploring this option or not, but if you really want to play the Cruis'n games (USA, Exotica, and World), you might want to try a n64 emulator.

Back on topic ladies...

Reading the MAME FAQ would have answered your question:

http://www.mame.net/mamefaq.html#t10

I'm totally baffled as to why people DON'T read FAQ's.  The "F" stands for "Frequently".  I would think that anyone have troubles with a software package would first read the "frequent" issues, and second try message boards?  Has the art of reading the documentation been lost on this generation?

This is a forum to talk about stuff, but it gets a little redundant when we have someone asking the exact same question every week. The forum is for discussion of different topics/experiences that either aren't discussed about in the FAQ or new items or questions that come up.

Believe me the FAQ doesn't cover everything you'll encounter when building a cab, like setting up dual light guns, and stuff like that, but it does a great job of answering the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

bah AHAHAHAHAHAHA :)  o man... I needed that.  Thanks Goz.

And yeah, I agree this is a place to talk.  But for you Tommy, you wanted to know about Cruisin' and felt like sharing.  Only problem is, there have prolly been 40 people with "OMG I CANT PLAYZ TEH CRUISIN" threads.

You won't be able to play it unfortunately.. not yeat anyway :)  Once our CPUs speed up a bit, it'll be a diff story.  Until then, we're all out of luck.  If there was a secret way to play full speed, someone would know by now.  Too bad too... I really like the game.

Ok, as the saying goes there's truth behind every rumor.

You can use a mobile processor in a desktop - for AMDs.   As a matter of fact, I'm typing this message from a PC with a Mobile Barton 2600XP that is clocked at 2.7ghz at 1.85v.  This means this Barton is running at roughly 4100 - 4300XP speeds.   My MAME cabinet has a Mobile Barton 2400XP that is clocked at 2.25ghz and it could go even higher if I had faster RAM in the PC.  IMHO - the Mobile Barton family is the best bang for the buck CPU ever.   All Mobile Bartons clock to or beyond the desktop 3200XP processors.  This is because the best chips off the wafer go to the mobile family and the leftovers go to the desktops.   Best $90 - $100 bucks I've ever spent on a PC part.

So, the moral of the story is... yes, Virginia their is a Santa Claus that can put a mobile in a desktop.
