Opinions Wanted - Best VPinball Tables?
« on: February 28, 2005, 11:54:30 am »
I'm looking for some visual pinball tables to add to my cab (out of sheer and total boredom).

I'd like opinions on the best visual pinball tables, (Preferably the newer versions w/ graphical displays, although older machines that play really well are welcomed too).

I know this is going to vary greatly, I'm looking for diversified answers.

So far I've got STTNG, Addams Family, Terminator 2.  Any others?

I *was* using mamewah.  I'm not sure what i'm going to use now (May stick with it, may go to something else).

I just want some recommendations on really good Visual Pinball adaptations to add to my collection.  I recently decided to do some trimming and create gamelists of games that I either play, or could potentially play, and trimmed out all the crap (50 different versions of the same game, a million and 1 mahjongg games, etc) and think the cabinet will get more play (when I fix it).  The sheer list of games was way too overwhelming for my friends, and there were alwyas games they'd pick from the list taht didnt' work, or that the controls weren't configured on, or ran slow, or something, and they'd just give up and stop bothering.

I don't want to have EVERY Visual Pinball table in my frontend, just the REALLY GOOD adaptations.

Twilight Zone is a great table.

You might want to do a little looking around -- there are top 100 lists of "recent" pinball machines, and the top 10 are all generally enjoyable (IMO) in visual pinball.

I love pinball in general and some of my favorite tables are Addam's Family, Twilight Zone, Tommy, and Indiana Jones.

My favourite is Fish Tales.  The graphics are much cleaner than most of the tables I've played and the gameplay is great.  Also check out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

In addition to what's already listed here:

Funhouse - one of, if not, my all time favorites.
Tales of the Arabian Nights - very good new game
Medievial Madness - very funny and much fun to play

I'd agree with almost every one listed in this thread. One I haven't seen that I highly recommend would be Attack from Mars.

Thanks everyone for your posts.  I actually didn't know a lot of these existed, but I'm going to be glued to my cabinet now.  :)

I love this board  ;D

Are you using an arcade monitor?

I found that many newer tables becomes very blurry in the back of the playfield due a lot of toys and the lower resolution of an arcade monitor (I use 768x576, probably looks worse at 640x480).

Games from 80's and early 90's work fine.

Twilight Zone is wonderfully done. Big Bang Bar is also just fantastic. And Black Knight 2000, although sometimes the ROM is a bit touchy and you have to restart it to get the sound going right.

Other original tables worth tracking down are Card Sharks (if you like older, early-80's style games), The Jetsons, and Rapid Vienna.

I also have Hercules in my cab... gotta love a pool table with a cue ball for a pinball.

VPinmame/VPinball is GREAT, except how do you deal with tilting the table?

I think it's the B button... but since I play VP on my cab I don't really use a default button layout any more.

A bangback is where as your ball is draining in an outlane you whack the front of the machine HARD while flipping up the flipper on that side, hoping to knock the ball up onto the opposite flipper and back into play. There are a couple neat video clips of guys doing that on various machines on the net. I can do them sometimes on VP, but never IRL.

Not to derail this thread, but I think this is on-subject...

What's the best vpinmame/vpinball wrapper (for use with mamewah)?

Also, can you specify custom resolutions like 640x432?
