VGA to RGB adapter?
« on: October 24, 2002, 09:29:09 am »
Hi everybody, here I am with another dumb question:  ;D

I got a very good offer of a 21" arcade monitor with RGB connectors, but as my cabinet was built from scratch I don't have the JAMMA connectors to plug this arcade monitor in.

So here's my question: is it possible to build a VGA to RGB adapter so I can plug it on my video card? Or where I can buy a pre-made one?

Thanks a lot.

* Edited: I meant VGA to RGB, not the inverse.

Well, there are RGB to VGA adapters:

http://www.magenta-research.com/cables_accessories/video_adapters.html

They're just not going to work the way you want them too with your arcade monitor.

Start here for more info:

In fact, I believe I stated wrong what I want: it's a VGA to RGB converter, because the signal will go from the video card to the arcade monitor, right?  ;D Sorry about the mistake, SNAAAAA(...)AAAKE and Dink.

If helps, my video card is a Geforce 2 MX 400 AGP with s-video and composite out. If this doesn't work, I also have a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI card.

VGA to RGB often called PC2JAMMA even if you do not have a jamma connector the rwiring from the PC to the Arcade monitor is covered at the link below.

http://www.mameworld.net/pc2jamma/pc2jamma.html

Use the link on the left of the home page PC2JAMMA and then the link at the top called video,

Thanks BobA, I was just reading this site when I saw your post  ;D

Now I see that it's possible to hook the arcade monitor on the video card. But there's one thing that I'm still lost: is is possible to use the arcade monitor with Windows? I'm using WinME and personally hate DOS.

And as I saw on ArcadeOS and Dragon's Den, they're all using DOS. But I'm going to pay some Windows games too - like Pro Pinball.

It's possible to use Windows? If not, I'm going to screw all this idea up and put a television on my cabinet instead.

answer is NO.
Like I said, either get a scan converter or wait for andy's 15khz ati based grafic card that outputs windows to arcade monitor.

Looks like I'm gonna buy this arcade monitor and keep on the closet until Andy releases his video card. It's a VERY VERY VERY good offer I can't lose.

Anyway, thanks a lot to everybody.
