well mrJuke, since you asked.......
yours is probably the worst of the litter... and i can get DOOM 3 for less than you are asking for your software. Don't you see anything wrong with someone paying over 50 bucks for a glorified media player?
And since you are wondering why it's the worst, I'll lay it all down for you.
#1 You require a mouse. Most cabinets don't have a mouse and those that have a trackball rarely have a trackball that is comfortable enought to use for excessive and constant navigation. Enough said on that one, as chris said, your program simply isn't suited for a mame cabinet. Before you say "You can use keys for most functions" they aren't the mame defaults and as far as I can tell they aren't remappable, and are therefore useless.
#2 Your gui looks like a typical windows application, with list boxes, buttons, and all. We HATE that, I mean we really really hate that. The whole point of a mame cabinet is to hide the os and make everything seamless and taylored to the hardware itself. Aside from a few lamers who have an xarcade setup running mame 32 on a svga monitor, I don't see how anyone could be happy with the "windowsy" look your product has.
#3 It mimics the overall layout of virtual music jukebox and functions very similarly except vmj is half the price. (And I'm not a very big fan of it either, so I'm by no means biased.)
#4 It just doesn't offer enough flexibility in the setup. I mean you have a fixed drive for the albums, you integrate the admin menu with the windows login, you have a slew of buttons that 99% of the general public won't be using. Heck you can't even exit the juke without killing it. (Yes I know about the bartender method, it's useless) And manual album creation? Ever heard of id3 tags? Unless the user is stealing music then the mp3 files should be tagged and therefore album generation should be automatic. As an option manual creation is nice, but it definately shouldn't be required.
#5 Being "professional software" just means that you are charging for it and absolutely nothing more.
You've got a lot of nerve denouncing the quality of a program just because it's free, especially considering the high price and overall low quality of your product. Mind you I'm sure there's a market for it, but it sure isn't here. We want software suitable for mame cabinets and yours simply is not.
If your program was free I would consider it a good start on a jukebox program but considering it's not and you claim that it's "professionally made" I find it to be a very laughable attempt.
And on a personal note I find the way you demeaned chris and all the other developers by automatically assuming that your software is better extremely offensive. Do not insult my fellow developers and then expect to turn a cheap buck by selling your crappy software to the exact same community. Have you ever heard the expression "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" ?
So in closing, I took the "challenge" and you failed. Being a senior member and having been a trend setter for the community for a few years now I feel comfortable speaking for most of our community. While we wish you the best of luck we sure as hell aren't drinking the kool-aid. Your attitude isn't appreciated, and in all honesty, even ignoring that, your software doesn't meet our specialized needs and is somewhat inferior with certain key features. Please search for potential consumers elsewhere. I'm sure there some potential suckers... err I mean customers amoungst the newbies over at the mameworld forums.
As planetjay would say "Thanks for playing!"
