« on: September 26, 2004, 09:56:08 am »
Well here it is just about finished now! Please let me know what you all think. Also if anyone had an idea for a character that might look good over by the SEGA logo please let me know.

Ok worked out a few things I didn't like and here is an update.
For some reason the bottom keeps getting cut off but. Now Link is were he is going to go unfinished since I haven't gotten that far. Bart is around the bottom with his sling shot. Now I am still working on other pics for the corners. Maybe some group shots. X-Men something like that.

Yow.  Resize that last attachment please. :)

I'd make the "Arcade Paradise" lettering larger so it's more prominent.

If you can't be a good example at least try to be a horrible reminder.

Yep, make the name of the cab stand out a bit more. Also my suggestion is to swap Bub (or is it Bob?) with the Link character. Link is more nintendy than the bubble bobble franchise...

Well here is were I stand now Link will be removed from Marquee and to the CP overlay most likely. I hope this is an improvment!

Ok here it is what I am happy with so far. If you are wondering about the tetris blocks well me and my wife enjoy going head to head in Tetris so I figured she would like it plus it doesn't look too bad. If anything I might rework the Tetris area and add more. We shall see what happens.

My humble suggestions:

1: The Atari logo doesn't look quite right to me because it's black and white, and everything else has some color. Maybe try keeping the white box outline, but using a rainbow Atari symbol?

2: It's hard to tell from the small version you posted, but it looks like the Capcom logo needs to be cleaned up a little due to the blue stuff inside and around some of the letters (unless that's the way it's supposed to be). It looks like it's been cut-and-pasted from another picture with a different background.

3: The compass symbol in the middle is the center of attention, but it's also the only element of the picture that's blury. (Unless the letters "ARCADE PARADISE" are also blured at the edges, hard to tell in the small pic.) The marquee might look more balanced if you added "glow" to the "ARCADE PARADISE" letters in a contrasting color, maybe purple or teal.

4: Make the colored outlines around the letters match the colors of the Tetris blocks, for improved overall balance.

And by the way, the Tetris blocks are a really nice touch!

Regards,
Dave

I'd probably try to get the Midway and NeoGeo logos back in there.

Looking good though.

Sorry for lack of update my CPU cooling fan dead and I replaced it this morning! Well I got rid of the background really didn't like it and remade the Midyay and Konami logos. Added CP buttons which I think look cool. Still want a back ground but need to think what might look good. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to let me know. Oh and in responce to Robopede's earlier post yes that is how the Capcom logo is supposed to look All the blue should be there!. It was already cleaned up. Perhaps it got a bit thrashed from resize and converting it to JPEG to post it here. Also with the Atari Logo it is the company logo if you can show me an Atari logo from the company in other colors other than a red and white one please show me but this is what Atari used as a logo as far as I know so I wont change it's color. All the other company logos I used or touched up I kept as close to the real colors as possible.

nice... I like the atari logo, I thought there was a rainbow version of it from sometime ago... but can't find the one I used to have, or anywhere online (the quick search I did), but maybe take off the box around it?  and also like the buttons, but they are shiney, and you dont' have much 'shine' on the marquee...

heres what I would do (and I didn't read up above, so sorry if I repeat something thats already been discussed)... find a different set of buttons, some with less shine that would blend in more and not stick out... take off the atari box, and switch its position with the konami logo (I really like how bart pops out from behind it)... and last but not least, those moves would make DK Jr a little crowded, as I think he might be a little bit already... and move him to that center spot between the tetris blocks...

Here's that color Atari logo in Adobe Illustrator format.  Rename the .txt extension to .ai after you DL it.

I'm not sure how I feel about the buttons.  They may be OK, or maybe they should be dropped alltogether.  Not much help there, am I?  :)   I do know though, that it's very easy to throw too many disparate elements into a marquee and make it too "busy."

If you can't be a good example at least try to be a horrible reminder.

OK first I am trying the rainbow Atari Logo. I will see if it stays but thanks for it. Second no the buttons are not the only shine. The tetris blocks also have shine. I am sure it is hard to tell with them being converted and shrank down in size. My new font once I finish will also have some shine. So here it is so for getting late so I can't finish the other letters yet! Also once I get all the letters in they will be scaled up to fit. Just starting with an easy to manage size.

Ok I decided to try a new font. The left and right have a reverse color layout. Is one better than the other? Should I leave them different? Is it an improvment? Please give me some feedback I am trying to get this as close to final as possible.

One more question I have been trying to find a nice background that has good contrast with no luck. Any ideas out there or examples?
