MAME a way to NOT USE Coins?

My cab for my nephews is near completion and I was wondering is there a way to set all games to not require coins just hit start and play? I know some games have dip switches for "free play" but I cant go through every game! any cheats or versions of mame to set it for all games?

i checked for one but did not see it... i will double check.....does it depend on which version of mame you use?

the best and easy way of doing it is just map you p1/p2 start with the coin.
ex:
Map  P1 = 5 and 1  so when press, it insert a coin and start
and so for the p2.

There isn't.  You'll either have to do it manually, or show him how to shortcut a coin insert.

Of course, you have JUST a few games on there, right?  You didn't install all 5000 games, right?

As far as I am aware only AdvanceMAME has the global option to set all games to freeplay.

For any other MAME version you'll need to set them one by one.

The easiest option is just adding a coin button and explaining to the young ones that they have to belt it a few times before playing the game.  I saw a neat cab a while back where the user had sealed a US quarter into a plastic casing and turned that into the button.  It looked quite neat, and was very self-explanatory for new users.

I would think you could possibly wire the start and coin button on the keyboard to one button on the control panel.  Then again, I don't think mame or the roms (or maybe the keyboard if you aren't using an ipac) would like having the coin and start pressed at the same time.  Even then, I would think that anyone able to play the games could probably put in a quarter or press a button before.
