my humble first attempt
« on: August 05, 2004, 02:03:33 pm »
Thanks to this web site and Lucid's arcade flashback, I made my first cab.  It was a lot of fun to build, and gets a lot of use at my office where it now lives.  I recently put in a trackball and installed advanceMenu (under Linux).

yeah I tried it just now and got nothing.  From the single pic you have it looks pretty cool.  I like the gloss black finish.

Very nice. I like how 'clean' it looks. Simple and clean, that's how I like it...

Again, sorry about the busted link.  Should be back in a few hours.

The cab is all black because I prefer the 'clean' look.  Clutter annoys me ;).  The yellow box image is the logo of my company, because I knew it would be in the game room at work.  The coin door and controls are from Happ, and the i-pac and opti-pac boards are from ultimarc.  The 2.25" trackball is a recent addition.

It's 3/4" MDF, a very high-quality gloss black paint, and t-molding from t-molding.com.

I have an entire build log with pictures on that web page.  I've been fighting with my ISP today, though.  Argh!

I love the cab! Do you have any photos showing what it looks like with the CP off? More specifically how the CP attaches to the cab?

Looks good, but why not a different color for the buttons? Yellow probably would've looked nice if it matched your company's logo.

I read through your site but no where did you say what size monitor you used.  I'm just curious.  Is it 21"?  Again Nice cab.

Yes, it's a 21" monitor.  We had an extra one at work so I just used it.  I would like to have used a TV instead, but I didn't want to break the bank on my first cab.

My next project will be a ms. pac-man / galaga style cocktail cab, and I plan to use a TV for that one.  Perhaps even a real arcade monitor if I can work up the courage to install something with no case like that ;).

Cool.  I'm using a 21" as well so it's nice to see what it's gonna look like.  Thanks for the info!;D

Yeah, I wanna know about that lamp, too.

A little negative gravity and everyone gets all in a bunch.

No, seriously, it is a floor lamp, but the base broke one day, and we figured it was a perfect lamp for the foosball table.  A little fun with wiring and voila!

Yeah, I know, I'm just using a 21" computer monitor.  I'm looking around for a cheap-ish TV to use instead, but for now, it'll work.

Hey, it's just my first.  My next project will be a cocktail cab (four-way stick, trackball, one or two buttons only).  I'll definitely be using a real display device for that one.

There are six small screws (three on each side).  You can see them if you look closely.  That way I can remove the bezel and get to the monitor easily if I need to.

For example, when I get my act together an get an actual TV or arcade monitor instead of the computer monitor I have in there now ;).
