I have only a quarter tank of gas, so I'll stop to fill it up on the way home from work today.

I think I'll buy a bottle of Mountain Dew too.

Actually, after I heards the news, I was planning on hunting you down so I could throw joysticks and trackballs at you.  Why not just build a single stick cp instead?  Something like this: http://www.massystems.com/PS-NOVA.jpg

I really am dedicating all of my funds to this laptop. Very expensive. Also, I am moving to NYC when I turn 18 or 19, so it would pe pointless to start this here anyway. by 14 I meant i will be 30. Lots f stuff in my life. Well, anyways, I will end this post now

Why on earth are you overpaying so much for an alienware laptop?  Totally not worth it IMHO.  Get a sager... they build alienware's systems anyway IIRC and are much cheaper.  Or a new Dell XPS which game great and are rock solid.  Or get an Athlon64 Emachines lappy, and upgrade the ram and cpu for wayyyy less than what you'd pay for an Alienware.

Of course, if you're 16, you prolly want a freaky color and that cutesy little alien head ;)  It's your money.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

Not sure of Floyd10 / James St James / etc reason, but the fact that the alienwares upgradable graphics module is pretty sweet. In theory (if alienwae doesn't change things) you could upgrade your graphics core whever you want... 1 year from now or 3 years from now or every year (rich kid). and still keep the same lappy.

I agree that they are overpriced laptops that use high end parts and sport the bling bling that today's kids think are da shiznit but there are some good aspects to owning one (I don't).

just some additional perspective and a shamless attempt to use this thread to bolster my post count some more.

That's probably a good place to go for that.  Either there or Nashville.  That place is hopping with musicians because of all the recording studios there.  Again, good luck, my friend.

FYI Floyd, if you want a laptop that has a battery that last longer than one hour i wouldn't bother with the Area 51.  Yeah its super powerful and stuff, but it weighs 11 pounds and the battery life sucks horribly.  Look for a laptop with a fast Pentium M in it if I were you.

Google Fruit?  What's that taste like?  Kinda like chicken?

Why not make your own laptop?  Check out MaximumPC's rig of the month area to see what's possible...and build on that.

FWIW, I would hold out on that Alienware deal unless they throw in a free mouse pad too  ;) or at least a coffee mug  :P

Nothing wrong with waiting on tables.  Between my house and classic car hobby, the extra 4 grand a year I get for waitering 2-3 Saturdays a month comes in handy.

In college I kept thinking, after I graduate I'm going to get a 'real' job, and I thought waiting tables was beneath me.  After 5 years of working a 'real job', I realize it's just a job.

Now I'd happily shovel crap 8 hours a day if it paid enough.

Ok guys, I didn't mean to offend.  My point in case was that musicians tend to work odd jobs and stuff to get by, ya know the whole Jewel thing "I was living in my car, working odd jobs performing on the weekends".  I'm a fellow musician myself so I know how it is.  If you can cut it in that type of buisiness I have all the respect in the world for you.  I wish I could be doing it for a living instead of doing the whole 9:00 - 5:00 deal.
