Can u run MAME Fullscreen??
« on: August 18, 2002, 12:29:14 am »
Hi,
Someone has got to know this one...I have no way of getting mame (windows command version) to run at complete full monitor screen with scan lines.. (wont run full screen either way) No matter what there always is a border around it. I know stretch mame will make it full screen but can mame? With stretch mame does it support all 61 roms too???? right now I have to run

mame wwf -nohwstretch -scanlines.
this runs it nice but there is a black border all around, how can i get it to the edges of the screen?? ???

Try a Capcom CPS2 game - say Street Fighter 2.  There should be a black border top & bottom due to the ratio of the screen - but horizontally it should (more or less) fill the screen.  I guess this may depend on your video card tho.

Also, have you set the positioning/sizing of each mode on your monitor (if you use a PC monitor)??  If you have an older (non OSD) screen then it probably won't remember different sizes for each mode.

Sorry if you've done this already.  I can't get all my games to fill the screen either, and I use similar setup to you -nohwstretch & -scanlines.

Actually the capcom games are broken.... With hardware stretch turned off they look fine but when you turn it on, even if keep aspect ratio is turned on, it is stretched out of ratio.  I know that doesn't really apply here, but I just thought it would be a bad selection to test as it has other problems.

They do look 'taller' (in Windows MAME) than I remember them in DOS MAME some time ago.  I think it looks pretty good that way tho :)

bah! I'm a capcom fan in the biggest way and that annoys the heck out of me.  I hope they fix it soon so cammy can go back to being 5 '4 instead of 6 '3
;)

Hey,
So what do I run at command then to get full screen? (complete) with scanlines??? if not with how without? The command I used above works but theres that black border..maybe someone could tell me the exact command line? I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks
Jim

Well, why don't you use an .ini file?  Just type MAME -cc at a command prompt, then edit MAME.INI.  You can then adjust all the video-related stuff until you get the best you can.

Here's how mine's set up:

### Windows video options ###
autoframeskip           1
frameskip               0
waitvsync               0
triplebuffer            1
window                  0
ddraw                   1
hwstretch               0
resolution              auto
refresh                 0
scanlines               1
switchres               1
switchbpp               1
maximize                1
keepaspect              1
matchrefresh            0
syncrefresh             0
throttle                1
full_screen_brightness   0.000000
frames_to_run           0
effect                  none
screen_aspect           4:3
sleep                   1

Note that you will NEVER get full screen for ALL games unless you turn hardware stretch on and turn keepaspect off.  But then some (most?) games will be out of proportion and hardware stretch will make it all blurry.  I prefer to have some black borders in order to get correct proportions and no blur.  But give it a go and see which you prefer :)
