question bout advmame resolution trouble

ok i can create a resolution say for galaga oh a horizontal monitor 400x288 cause that is the auto resolution from advmame. now when i set it up in advv it works fine but when i use it in advmame it looks like it is double lined only on the top of the screen and it jumps or whatnot. i dunno if this is a good explanation or not if not i will try to get pics
