Neocandy/egret1/taito special poor addicts
« on: July 04, 2004, 01:47:17 pm »
:) perhaps in usa, canada,   prices for this kind of arcade is fair.. (i think it is !)  but in europe it's nearly 700-800$,  and even worse for Taito egret, and rare too.

so i decided to do a cab for the fun, the japanese zen spirit, the mix of two cab styles,   and for news !  because even on 800 projects or more,  i only saw one time a real neocandy hacked (and the links are dead) , and as one of first french to have done a cab,  i want motivate people for different cabs.

it's about w.i.p. 80% done, missing some colors, front, voltage for sound, comfort.

it's running dreamcast/saturn and perhaps psx/ps2 if i can hack controllers

from the start to this.   even if the page is in french, (babelfish or any translator will do the job)  ,  but pictures talk for themselves (except it's.. poor apn).

Great looking cabinet!

What is in the topper? Seakers and lights? If there are lights in the topper do they reflect off of the glass? What is their purpose?

What type of controllers are you using? I saw 2 types on your website one with a joystick with 8 buttons and one with 2 flight sticks. Did you build those or are they commercial units.

Very nice work.

the sticks are the best i played with :   saturn virtua japan arcade.   seems the feeling of real japanese candycab.   this way i can plug another kind :  twin stick (for Virtua-on)   or another one hacked for Pc usb/gamepad  and Psx/ps2,      the harder to come are  Saturn to other consoles adapters !   (i would have gained time to switch on a printer 4in1 for many connections)

the topper is as close i could build, according to Taito egret cabinets,    even if lights weren't on  (it'll be on red effects),  it's so marvellous imo  :D

You know what first came to mind when I looked at this?  That'd make an AWESOME jukebox!

Make with some dimensions and building techniques!  Excellent work, and a job well done  :D

;D   i didn't think for jukebox !    but.. with 4 speakers  could be possible,   and some little pc or walkman/cd/mp3 to it,  and it would run easily,    my real goal on a diy jukebox  would be to have a Wurlitzer effect  :D

Almost finished,  been hard,  but 4 speakers ok and amplified with few roupies money ...

to finish :  add psx hacked pad, ( i cant find one at low price yet !!),   add switch 50/60hz to my Saturn,  find cute cool seats,   PLAY & enjoy,   and evangelize this kind of Cab  :D

thats an amazing job. i too want to make a japanese style sit down cab, so this is very inspirational.

it's cool how you incorporated the virtua sticks, but why don't you buy an astro city control panel?

What's with the two speakers mounted right ON the screen?? I'd rotate those back 90's so they are on the sides, and facing out.
NO MORE!!

That's how the actual Egret looks:

holy crap man!!  That is a damn fine piece of construction right there, you have to post plans for all of us japanese arcade lovers.  I think next summer's project is going to be building one of these things.  That's a really good idea cutting out the control panel to fit those joysticks, freakin awesome.
-excellent cab, plans/notes are a plus for anyone else who wants to build something similar.

Really sweet! :D I like this.  I've never seen one of these style cabs.  Very nice work.

The only thing I don't quite get is where you'd put your feet when you're playing a cab like this.  Anyone have a picture of someone playing one of these style cabs?

thanks for feedback  ;)

on improvements.. i hacked another saturn arcade stick for Psx/ps2 support !  (i LOVE  ESPgaluda, Gradius5, Dodonpachi daiyou...)  .. i would have turned the Tv.   but some good 4.3 games exist too . (and i hope another year do a egret2 like..)  so on improved things too : the support for FinalburnXXX on xbox with a Magicbox  saturn>xbox pad.   so i can switch between 4 different hardwares  (Saturn for  stv and arcade games),  Dreamcast for naomi like,  Psx/ps2 for Arcade games and fighting games,   Xbox for cps2/cps1/neogeo/shootemups (i LOVE TOO :  ESPrade, Dodonpachi),      and even Pc.. (i hate them ^^) with anoter saturn stick arcade hacked to Usb.

on To do list :    add some good artworks or instruction panels, and paint grey/black as the low real adjustments box,  just the very little touch that will add aspect

yes.. the speakers i have annoy me.. i want much like the originals  (mine sounds too much like "pc stuff",  .. that will take time or luck but i hope succeeding,

i have none or nothing for measurements !!   i made all the design (so it's not exactly as the real ones),  just by watching (hundred of times ^^), and printing (old 24' printer) the pictures as the one you pointing at (it's from norway,  and thanks he has made some good pictures from different angles !)

the real astropanels exist for sure.. but it's expensive (much more in Europe !)    i would so much have loved just to pay 400$ for the real arcade (some appear on ebay on Los angeles),  but europe sucks for such things  ::)

you play these kind of cabs sitdown  (as neocandy, konami, netcity)

few weeks.. and i will post videos of the setup i hope,  (dv cam capture, but friend didnt have connection for my pc),  i'm not good at luck.. dark fate, i fight everyday my lack of luck !  even Cthulhu which i admire from 1986 doesnt want me ^^ :-X)
