American Horseshoes in .82

I can't seem to get this running in any of the versions of the latest MAME build.  As soon as it runs, I get a green screen, followed by this crazy screen grid with a multicolour box in the middle.  However, if I run an older version of MAME32, it runs no problem....

Am I doing something wrong, or is it broken in this build?
