Name that software! FOUND IT!!!
« on: May 17, 2004, 07:18:01 pm »
I'm trying to identify a program that is designed for car use.

I remember the from the website that it could play any digital music or video files if you had a USB GPS unit that you could incorperate that too and um... let me think, they sold an RF remote that could operate the software or you could set it up with a touch screen.

I guess that's about all I can remember about it  :-\

If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Are you talking about Media Engine?  I don't recall the remote control thingy, but all the rest reminds me of Media Engine.  Check out the Audio/Jukebox/Mp3 section for it.

Here's the link to media engine

http://www.mediaengine.org/index.php

I think that's the one you are looking for.

Well, thanks for the responses but... it's deffinitly not mediaengine and I'm pretty sure it's not mediacar.  I say pretty sure because I can't seem to open the page it is on, but the name doesn't ring a bell anyways.

So I'm still looking for the program.  But if I don't find it, no big deal, mediaengine looks as good if not better.

I found the program I was looking for!

It's CARPLAYER, found at http://www.carplayer.com

Now I have to catch up on what features which program has and figure out what's better than what...

Thanks everyone for your help.

It looks like thay make you pay for that one.  :P The only way to get it that I can find is with the remote and the (useless) plans for like $80... Forget that!

Ya, that looks like Media Engine's startup screen, but Media Engine's free!

I guess it depends on if the plans are worth it to simplify the process.  There's a reason people charge for the plans, after all.  Some folks just don't want to hassle with all the loose ends, they want an instruction booklet!

If you search, all the features they list (OTHER than the remote, and I think that remote looks a lot like an ATI remote) are available with Media Engine.  XM, several flavors of GPS, videos, visualizations, etc.
