Advance Menu and ATI Card Problem
« on: May 12, 2004, 02:43:54 pm »
Hello there, I managed to get my cab working in Dos perfectly using my ATI Rage 128 Ultra Pro 2 16 MB AGP Graphics Card using AdvanceMame, Hantarex 9000 arcade monitor, and Ultimarcs J -PAC (rest of system is a 1800duron 256mb ram, 40gig HD).

However the same cannot be said with AdvanceMENU.

The problem is is that the screen with Advanced menu is doubled (2 identical screen shots, next to each other, running parallel!). However when I select a game, it runs AdvanceMame and the game perfectly! I've tried fidgiting around with Advv.exe and Advcfg.exe to no avail.  ???

Can anyone offer any advice? Am I missing something completely simple?

Thanks for anyones help,

Andy

I don't think it is anything to do with advmame or advmenu.

It is to do with the JPAC and I think there is something in the FAQ about it. Yoou probably have to change the jumpers on the JPAC for the frequency of your monitor.

I could be wrong on this but it may be due to advmenu is set to run at a scan rate that is not compatible with your monitor.  There should be a setting within advmenu to adjust that.  I'm sure the documentation would tell you.  The reason the j-pac shows a double image is to prevent damage to your monitor from displaying the high scan rate advmenu is trying to output.  Does dos show a doubled screen?

run advv -advmenuv

to create you video mode for the Advmenu program.
make sure you have a line like this in advmenu.rc

device_video_pclock 5-50
device_video_hclock 15.75
device_video_vclock 50-60

This is ow I have mine using an Arcade Monitor (15khz).

I have a Hantarex 9000 and I used the following settings in advcfg

pclock "8-90"
vclock "15.62"
hclock "50"

I actually contacted Hantarex to ask the p/vclock so i'm sure they're corrrect.

So what would be the difference between :

device_video_pclock 5-50
device_video_hclock 15.75
device_video_vclock 50-60

and

device_video_pclock 8-90
device_video_hclock 15.62
device_video_vclock 50

Settings? Would there actually be any difference? I managed to get my cab working with the first set of options, so this is just out of curiosity ;-)

I don't really know, but when I phoned Hantarex, the tech guy told me categorically that vclock should be 15.62
