Playstation Emulator on Mame Cab?
« on: April 18, 2004, 08:42:20 am »
Has anyone tried using the espxe playstation emulator in their mame cab?

i've got a stack of old PS1 game cds here and figure it would be good if i could rip them to ISO images and play them on my mame cocktail cab (when i finish building it!)

just wondering what the quality of emulation is like? what processor/memory is required to get good enough performance?

will it work with ArcadeVGA graphics card ok (what is 3d performance like)? will it work with a 15KHz arcade monitor?

presumably there is special control panel consideration to be taken into account (how to implement the PS1 controller shoulder buttons?)

is it possible to integrate the emulator with MameWAH or other Mame frontends?

cheers

- richard

I use it with a PIII 733 and a radeon 7500.  This setup runs all of the 2-D games like Castlevania SOTN.  The 3-D ones like tekken 3 have slow down.  I think it is due to the processor speed not the videocard.

Here is how to  setup in MAMEWAH:

First, make a new bat file. For example: epsxe.bat. Next, open the new file with notepad and then fill it with:

epsxe.exe -nogui -loadbin %1

In Mamewah, set this file up as your emulator. Also, set ROM Extension to bin and rename all your psx image exstensions to bin. Now, Mamewah will load the command line epsxe.exe -nogui -loadbin %1 replaceing %1 with the game in your list.

cool thanks.

are you using an arcade monitor?

I figure that it should play ok on arcade monitor as it is pretty close to a regular TV.

Yep, I have a XP 1700+ and a Radeon 7500 inside...no slowdown with PS 3d stuff.

i have a amd 1.2 with radeon 7200 and it works great for all the 3d games, tekken 3 runs perfect. some games have a little slowdown (driver 2) but i think that has to do with the game engines themselves as opposed to the hardware because i remember them having slowdown on the psx.

In answer to one of your questions, yes it works fine with the ArcadeVGA.

Set it to a res of 720x480 for an interlaced TV look.

You can set it to one the the AVGAs lower, no interlaced resolutions, but you'll have to use the registry to configure the X and Y res values accordingly, as the epsxe config utils only show typical PC resolutions to select from.

Least when I configured it 6 or so months ago with the current version of epsxe of the time, that was the case.
