My Marquee
« on: March 06, 2004, 05:00:51 am »
Here is a Marquee I am working on for my next cab.  This is still in its early stages as I havn't decided on a final name for the cab yet. (All I could come up with was "Arcade Xtreme", all the good names are taken!! LOL)

There is this one with some small arcade characters:

Or this one with the characters removed:

There is actually small stars in the background but they didn't come up too well when I resized the image for the previews.

The cabinet is going to be Black with Blue T-Molding and the CPO will look like this:

Any suggestions for improvements to the Marquee, or a decent name for the Cabinet?

It looks good, but do you have enough room between the joystick and buttons and joystick and trackball? It looks awfully tight. Have you tested that button configuration? I don't think I could get used to that, you may like it though. Just try it out before you commit.

I like the characters on your marquee, I might try to make them a little bigger and see how it looks.

edit: I just had another thought. What about getting a few more characters, make them smaller and instead of the blue lines use blue characters all small and close together  for your "lines". Maybe even put a little glow behind them and the text...... Just a few ideas, not sure what the end result would look like until you try it. :)

If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

I like both marquees and especially the control panel. It has a cool landscape thing going on. With a land scape and the arcade lettering looking like planets you should call your cabinet " The World of Arcadia" or " Arcadia World Xtreme". Either way looks really cool, and i agree with having more images and make them smaller for the line effect.

I should have meantioned that the Control panel pic above is by no means to scale.  It was just a quick mockup I did to work out my colours.  The actual panel is 85cm wide and has more than enough room for the trackball. (well I havn't actually installed any of the parts in it yet, but from the blank wood with holes in it, it feels like there is enough room).  I have also used the angled button configuration on my two previous cabinets and I find it to be most comfortable.  Just a personal taste thing I guess.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll try seeing how it looks with more characters on the borders.

Here's one with a full border.  Still playing around with it...

Okay, this is what I have decided will probably be the final marquee.  The cab will now be named "Arcade Fantasy".

How the heck do you make these things?  Do you all have copies of Photoshop and know how to use it?

I really like the marquee and the CP art! Great work, very clean.
While I think the 'fantasy' marquee is okay, I do prefer the 'Xtreme', the 'X' make the image more dynamic. Then again, it's your cab :-)

The ARCADE font is "BatmanForeverAlternate" and you can grab it here: http://www.entensity.net/?content=fonts

The Fantasy font is KlingonBlade, also available from the above site.

I actually don't use Photoshop, I use a program called RealdDRAW Pro (available here )  It is very, very easy to use and enables you to do all sorts of fancy effects on any object just by selecting it in the menus.  The program is designed more for online web graphics, but it has a cool "MegaRender" export feature which enables you to enlarge your final output up to 10 times its original size!  All the objects in the program are vectors, so you don't lose quality either.

Thanks for the replies.  I'll try changing the Fantasy back to "Xtreme" and see what that looks like.  I'm still trying to make a decision on the name.  ;D

IMO, there is no place in this world where "extreme" spelled with an "X" is cool.  It was played out 5 minutes after it got popular 5+ years ago.

The look of it with the large "X' is more dynamic, but the name is just hokey.

D
If you can't be a good example at least try to be a horrible reminder.

I like the word ARCADE, without anything else.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I've also just about had it with Xtreme things.

Everything is Xtreme or Extreme these days.....

Extreme gum, Extreme vehicles, Extreme Panty Liners, and so on....
%$#@!&* machine took my quarter!

I've decided to ditch the word "Xtreme", basically because I wasn't happy with the look of it in any of the fonts I could find.  I really like the way "Fantasy" looks at the moment, but the name doesn't have much meaning to it.  Then again it's just a Marquee so it really won't bother me, as long as it looks cool I'm happy!  ;D
