My Next *WIP* cabinet
« on: January 27, 2004, 02:53:23 pm »

God knows what i'm going to do with this one too.. I'm thinking 21in svideo TV, small 2 controller/6 button + trackball  panel, and sell it or give/loan/lease  ;D it to a friend.

Ideas on this?! :-D

Note:  The artwork was underneath -- I sanded off the black paint and found that.. was kinda surprised ;D

I'd sell it, once completed.. if anything. --

the artwork is in worse shape than the picture shows, and it riddled w/ holes all over the place from  whoever had it previously.  There's also a fair amount of water damage to the bottom of it.

I'm repairing most of that without too much of a problem.

This thing WAS going into the trash before i rescued it.. so I'm going to do somehting with it, no doubt about that.

I figure I could sink like $400 into it, and sell it to a friend for $600 - $800 (with new t-molding, artwork, glass, paint, computer).. --

:-D

Why were you surprised to find Defender artwork on a Defender cab?

I've had other cabinets that have been sanded/sealed/painted over that have no original artwork on them.. or nothing really discernable after being sanded.  I actually wasn't sure what it was, I've had generic cabinets that were very simarly shaped, so I was surprised to find artwork that was pretty intact underneath it.

Whee! I have two of those cabs (with sideart) in my basement). They are my favorite cabinets for Mame.

I suggest ditching the trackball concept. It won't fit the panel, and that cabinet is NOT RIGHT for adding a larger panel to (I know, I tried back in my early days).

The correct panel size holds the Capcom layout nicely. Or you could do the ultimate single player layout which is 4-way, 8-way, 6 buttons, trackball. That layout will also fit nicely, but sacrifices 2 player action.

That sideart is salvageable if you have a STEADY hand (to either mask and respray it, or to repaint it by hand with brushes).

The sideart usually tends to survive on Defender conversions. Because it tends to survive the light sanding that the convertor might do before painting it black.

Any pictures of the mame'd cabinets?

I tried clicking your 'www' link but the page didn't come up. :-/

I'd like some suggestions on CP's for the defender.

Thanks!

My webpage is hopelessly out of date because I can't log in to update via FTP.

The current Defender cabs I have are not Mamed. But I have owned a Mamed Defender in the past.

A control panel at the stock size simply isn't large enough to fit both a trackball and a 2 player layout. You would have to sacrifice the second player layout to get the trackball.
