Nahhh.... it just wouldnt be the same!

Dont get me wrong the idea of VR has allways excited me, Ive often dreamt how cool it would be to play something like DOOM in VR with a gun in hand.

But VR arcades? Nah just not right!

These days unless one devotes a substantial amount of room to build a real one, VR is the most readily available way to experience an arcade. :(

Sadly that is probably true :(

Kids dont know what the feel of a Arcade was like, Really miss the olden days....

Cant help feeling that if opperators hadnt got so greedy with their pricing etc then they may of still been about.

But between the costs of playing and the fact everyone has a console these days they have pretty much had their day.

Still, We have this place and MAME :p

Even modern ops suffer from this.  The local mall arcade is a joke.  Of course it's not making much money, literally half the games in there don't work right, have broken buttons, or flakey sticks.  I'm not gonna spend 50 cents to play a game when odds are, it's not gonna work right.

I think a combination of affordable home gaming hardware plus a push towards longer, more immersive gaming meant arcades were always doomed.

There's no compelling reason for pay-to-play when you can get a better experience at home.

Agreed, but sometimes you just want a quick raz around the track or to kick the crap outa ya buddy on MK lol

That was the beauty of arcades, the social-ness, the flashing lights, sounds etc you cant really have that with consoles.

In my town real arcades were all but kicked out in the late 80's early 90's. Something about them drawing an unsavory crowd so they limited them to 3 machines at any one location.
All the local arcades closed down like Aladdins Castle in the mall, though Scandia did pop up just outside city limits. It's still there but does not use tokens anymore...its all swipe cards. Still fun every once and a while.

It would be a novelty to play a few games on VR cabinets. But I don't think it would be a go to source of entertainment.

There's a Nickel City arcade about 2 miles from my house. It's an arcade with new machines, plus a retro section. The retro games are all free with the $2 entry - Galaga, etc. I've never been there but I looked em up last week. They have skeeball and other games for prizes too. Been there a long time and it's large.

I also live within eyesight (in golf - a good driver and a 9 iron shot) of a Chuck E Cheese Pizza Time Theatre. Crap pizza I'm sure (as always) but I assume they still have tons of games. I remember them opening up when Lunar Lander was the hot new thing - something like that. I was young. I can walk there in 2 minutes.

I need to check out Nickel City so I can play a few cabs before finishing my own. I forgot what a CRT even looks like!

There's also a guy here in San Jose that owns a car battery store downtown. I don't know if he still does this, but he'd open up his pinball collection one night a week for free to anyone who knew about it. Never been there either.

I'm going to Nickel City tomorrow with a buddy, just confirmed!

I have 3 arcades within 5 miles of my house and you guys DO-oooon't!  :lol   :laugh2:
