I am hoping it is just that simple.

Wiring up that IPac Ultimate with the pre-made wiring harnesses is no problem. You got this!

I don't know man...

Be careful IronStrike. I had just 1 wire out of place and when I turned it on, it caught fire, caught my cab on fire and before I could put it out it create a feedback loop which deleted all my data on my computer including the external drives which weren't even powered on or plugged up. Before I could disconnect the ipac, it caught my house on fire which ended up being a total loss the insurance wouldn't cover.

Wish me better luck next time.
That's because you were using version 1.0. The new version has a built-in fire suppressor.

My spinal tap machine is 2 player, 2 gun, trackball, and 32" lcd screen. It's not the best cab on this site but there's likely something on there that will catch your eye.

I like the look and feel to your machine, the brass is nice!

There are a few pics missing, maybe the links are broken?  I am thinking of adding the guns in later, maybe using a dvd motor here - .

I had a question about scavenging PC parts.

I am thinking of a few options:
  • Kijiji - Grab things cheap here and there
  • Buy new online - I can customize exactly what I get
  • BestBuy - There is a spot where people bring in old computers that they want to trash.  I know that most of them don't work, but I bet some parts are salvagable (would BestBuy allow this?)

The PC parts you buy and where you get them from will depend on how high you want to go with emulation . The old school stuff can be played on an old XP machine you can probably find for free or on kijiji for cheap while the new emulation needs beefier specs and video cards.

I know quite a few people on here have gotten their PC from the link you provided. I would say the modder was a hell of a deal for a 2500 i5 but I am unfamiliar with the other currently available kit.

I am looking to play n64/psone games, don't think i'll get into anything past that.

Do you think the basic model on that link would suffice?

I would reconsider this.

Sorry I should have been specific.  The only n64 game I'd play is Mario Tennis which doesn't use that many buttons and FF7 for PSone.

But I am open to hearing why I should reconsider.

The controls are the issue, if you want that tennis game and it works with your setup and you are willing to futz with N64 emulation which is a PITA as I recall... Go for it.

Because playing a game that you can sink a 100+ hours into standing in front of a cabinet wouldn't be very comfortable ?

Ugh I don't want extra complications for two games.  I'll tone it down, I think that basic PC bundle should be enough then. I mean I do have an N64 so I could just play that if I really wanted.

There is this thing I see guys do all the time where they build a shelf for all of their consoles, it's cool, and allows you to play all those games as they were intended and makes for a nerded out display in it's own right.  Or if you into the emulation bit, you can build a console emulation machine in a box, hell some guys have even built it IN a wireless controller now that's a solution for console emulation I can get behind.

Yeah that's true, didn't think of that.  I was thinking of making something that could be added on for back support.  Thinking of a moving bar strong enough to support your back but something that could be adjusted/moved to become a seat.  I'll probably try to draw something up once i finish.

I've seen a few of these, specifically portable mame which I was initially thinking of making. Decided to scrap that because I didn't want to play solo games.

Does anyone have any advice in regards to coin door?  I am looking for a 4 entry coin door so I can wire it to the start buttons.

http://www.twistedquarter.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2576 - I was thinking this one, any suggestions?
https://www.arcadeplastics.com/any-coin-mech - I've also bought the Any Coin V2 so I can use any size coins (going to charge my friends money to play until I pay for this whole project  :laugh2:)

Trying to decide which coin door to use so I can send the measurements to get it all CNC'd, any suggestions/advice would be great.

@fryed_1 - You are right, I am starting to think that my ultimate dream might not be practical.  I'll make a note of MCM electronics and do some research.  Do you have a post to your progress? I wouldn't mind looking at it!

First cab, almost done with it, just finishing work really left to do.  Designing custom/original graphics is a lot more challenging than I thought it would be. - http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,148255.0.html

I am looking for help with wiring!

I have purchased IL-Lumination 5VDC RGB LED (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/button-leds/101-il-lumination-5vdc-rgb-led.html) and I wanted to test each one individually to make sure they are working.
I also have a PACLED64 from ultimarc.

What is the best way to test this out (I am an uber newb)?  I have done some reading but still not sure what I would have to do.   I've checked out this video as well for some ideas. ().

Would I just hook this up to a power supply to test or can i wire it to the PacLED64 to change the colors?

Thanks in advance :)
