Im not very good at using adobe illustrator and was hoping someone would be able to vectorize this image for me.  I tried a few times and got horrible results.

Holy ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---! Yeah, that ain't gonna happen without a lot of time and effort. I don't even think Vector Magic could help you there. Good luck!

Yea if someone vectorizes that for you they are either the nicest person in the world or incredibly bored.

Curious, what were you planning on using it for?
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

Haha yeah I figured it was a long shot.  I tried to auto vectorize it a few times and it didn't turn out to well.  I think I'm just going to push this idea to the side for now lol.

You would pretty much need to seperate each character image and vectorize one at a time -- so would definitely be a time consuming undertaking !!

Have you asked the artist for a vector copy? Where did you get it? Could be a simple email if you explain what you plan on using it for. Thx

That might be the weirdest mix of SEGA an Nintendo characters I have ever seen ;)

Anyway, I second that is pretty time consuming to do a proper vectorization of that picture. It is probably done in vector format from the beginning, but there are a lot effects added to it that is making it more or less impossible for programs like Vector magic to do something good about it.

I hope you can use .psd files. I had to use rar since the file is larger than 2 mb.

I just realized that Mario is nowhere to be found in that collage. Surprising, for one of the most iconic characters in gaming history.

I don't see any vectors in your psd file. Maybe because psd originally a raster image file type.

Drat. I'm using CorelDraw, since that is not very popular, I have to export the file to another format. Next try : Adobe illustrator.

Using automated vectorising rarely gives a satisfying result. Vector files are used where images need to be scaled without loss of detail or sharpness. With auto vectorising you immediately loos much detail.
Here a detail of both images:

You are right. I have tested cranking the detail level up to max and fiddled around with the other settings, got the pic a bit better, but up close it does not look so good. I did compare the images, but I obviously did not zoom in close enough.

I took some time to vectorize one of the characters in the drawing. It took almost a full hour to do this, but I'm not a pro so maybe it can be done faster.

The knight at your service: (you can zoom without loosing the sharp edges)

Just to compare:

Well, of course it's not as good as traced, it's Vector Magic. No one's going to trace all of that, though.

I think  the original poster was joking when he made this post. It will take years to hand vectorize this!

I'm pretty sure he figured somebody had a better program that they could just pop it into and it would do it for them.
