First of all you should know that there is no copy right protection on the SEGA CD so you can try the games on some high quality CDR's, so  damage the CD drive) before adding them to your collection. Second, apparently if you have an Ever drive you can save the 25 year old CD by playing your backups off the cart. If you do have an Ever drive and try this please let us know how it works out. the ever drive only supports Uploading SEGA cd bios and as a ram cart.

Good games:
Lunar (very good)
Lunar 2
Monkey Island
Sonic cd
Sol feace
Earthworm Jim
Shining Force CD

*Pier Solar (This is A new cart based game but is the only game ever that has an option to use the CD drive for better sound)

Some odd balls games are still interesting and worth a play. Much like hoe some movies are so bad there fun:
Dracula unleashed, I almost put it above but because my brothers and I had so much fun with it, but it's clearly not a great game).

And don't wast your time on any of the 6 Sega CD/32X games. They all are trash.

now that you mention it I am ordering an everdrive for my genesis this weekend.

You can get the older model off aliexspress for $30
http://m.aliexpress.com/item/32525680270.html

Please let us know how you like it in the SD thread, partially how the CD drive option works. i.e. Are Load times improved. The nice thing is you could burn a cd and use the same imige on the ever drive for you test. After going back to re read Howard is right.

Unless there has been a breakthrough that I'm not aware of, the everdrive md does NOT play cd images.  It'll let you boot to custom bios, but I think that's it.  Now genesis, and master system sure, and if you have the 32x adaptor, 32x.

You'll just have to burn images I'm afraid.

I didn't think so. I am just getting the cheaper  everdrive md. I Don't want to shell out the extra 60 for the mega everdrive. Though the sega cd ram function on it would be nice.

Silpheed, Rise of the Dragon, Final Fight, AH3 Thunderstrike, Popful Mail, Spider-Man, eternal champions.

I had something like 100 games for the thing.  Most were $9 new.

I am defiantly looking forward to playing these games. I know there is a bunch of turd fmv "games" on the cd, but if I can play at least one great Rpg and the best version of earthworm Jim it will be worth it to me.

I paid a good $69.99 on eBay. Which is actually a good deal on eBay. I gave up on trying to find one in the wild.

I'm slowly but surely building up my sega hardware collection.  I didn't have any of it as a kid so it's taking a while.  I got a genesis.... probably need to get an everdrive.  Then when I get sick of genesis and master system games I can throw 20 bucks away on a 32x to play the two decent games for the upgrade.  THEN I'll move on to sega cd.

I still need a 32c and a master system as well as a saturn.
but I did just order my everdrive md.

I now have a Nes, snes, N64, gamecube, wii u, genesis, sega cd, dreamcast, ps1, ps2, ps3, and original xbox.

also a game boy color, game boy advance, psp, ds lite, and a game gear.

still missing plenty of good ones but my console collection is growing.

The sega cd arrived today. unfortunately the ac adapter I ordered is not here yet.

The box he shipped it in contained an xbox 360 memory card and a hard drive transfer disc for the 360. it was hidden under a flap at the bottom. I don't think he knows it was in there. Should I send those back?

Meh, email and ask.  Odds are he doesn't want it back, but asking will ease any issues of conscience.

well I got it hooked up and no light came on the cd side. Only the genesis light came on. I was trying with a generic 9v adapter. I'm still waiting on my official sega cd ac adapter. but the generic one had the right specs to work so idk why it didn't. is there a method to hooking it up right? it's a model 2 gen&cd

well scratch that. just got my cd ac adapter in the mail and it works fine. however I can't seem to get it to read any of my discs

alright so I got it working fully. Tested sonic 's and earthworm Jim SE. All seems to be good now.
