I just purchased an arcade that I plan to turn into a MAME. I have been wanting to do this for a LONG time, but am new at this and had a few questions. The original game (Hit The Ice by Williams) does not work properly. When I turn on the game to test the monitor, the monitor sounds like it is powering up, flashes a bit of snow in the upper left corner but never turns on. I can hear a slight hum coming out of the speaker, but no other sound is heard. I took a look at the wiring and everything is plugged in.
Currently I am thinking that the actual game board might be shot, which is fine because I am going to add a PC and replace all controls. I would love to keep the existing monitor. I live in Alaska and shipping is outrageous, and there isn't much of a local market for used parts. The monitor appears to be:
* Size: 25"
* CRT: Color CGA
* Model : Possibly a Wells Gardner. The only markings I can see state that it is manufactured by Zenith
* Picture Tube: G-A63ADG25X
* Other info: 04RC0105-005
* Serial number: 216753
What can I do to troubleshoot the monitor to make sure it is functional? Any thoughts on the issues with the original game?
Many thanks!
Side note: I feel comfortable working with electronics and discharging the monitor.
