The Long Dark
« on: October 14, 2015, 02:42:39 am »
So I have been looking at this on the Xbox One Game Preview tab for a while. You can download and test out a game that isn't done. I ended up buying the game after my hour trial expired. $20 well spent! Unfortunately I need another $20 to spare as I noticed the Jackbox Party Pack 2 is out now.

Anyways there is no story mode yet, but basically some sort of storm has ruined all electronics in the world and you are stuck up north in Canada trying to survive in the wilderness. You have to find food, water, and supplies including somewhere warm to sleep. I spent my first game wandering aimlessly in the wilderness for about 25 minutes and eventually found a camp with lakefront cabins. Drank some water without boiling it and died of dysentery. Not exactly everyone's cup of tea, but a very nerve racking, difficult, and fun game. Not many games give me as much satisfaction as this one has. Throwing a flare at a huge wolf and successfully scaring it away was a milestone, as was my first arrow kill. Unfortunately I froze to death while harvesting the meat from the deer.

If you die in this game it deletes your save. I'm playing on medium/regular difficulty.

Can you shave with an axe at least?

You just found a serious hole in the gameplay. I mean, what outdoorsman doesn't find time to shave with an axe?

I know right? And Canada to boot? Here's one such guy. That first photo alone is cover art material....

Here is the Instructable.

My obsession with this game is unhealthy. I've been logging a lot of hours on it. I recently decided to take a peek at the company's website - and discovered they are just an hour and a half drive from me. I've since submitted my resume and cover letter.

When you get hired, don't forget the axe.

ha I was totally thinking I should sharpen my axe today, totally unrelated. I'm gonna try to scrape my beard off with it.

Update: I tried shaving with an axe. Just don't. It basically pulled a bunch of hair out before I knew what was happening. The company wrote back and said they liked my resume but have no need for another audio guy at the moment. Was worth the shot.

I didn't think it would do anything without changing the angle and a honing. Did you sharpen the blade and hone it?

No. I am just a simple woodsman. I sharpened the blade to the point of chopping wood effortlessly.
