dark splotch on arcade monitor
« on: August 06, 2015, 12:55:11 am »
I recently moved some things around in my basement (my cocktail cabinet included) and have run into a very strange issue.  After moving the cocktail to the other side of the room and turning it 180 degrees I started seeing a strange dark area on the lower left of the screen.  When I rotate the cocktail back the splotch goes away.  I'm assuming this is some electro magnetic interference?  It doesn't seem to matter if it's close to the wall or not.  Is there any way to get rid of this problem without putting it back where it was?

either your degauss circuit is not working or not got enough power or there is a very strong em field nearby

you can try turning the cab until the screen looks good, then switch off power and then put the cab back in situ-wait 1 hour before powering on-this is the give the degauss circuit time to reset

unless you have a manual degauss circuit and it that case just degauss it

Get yourself one of these.

http://www.amazon.com/Waldom-Degaussing-Coil-Color-Power/dp/B00011UYJU

You can find them cheaper elsewhere, but this should do the trick.  Always good to have.

Thanks guys.
There is a wire around the monitor which seems to end around the corner where the splotch is.  It's a standard CGA and I don't see a degauss button anywhere.  I will give the 1 hour trick a try and then try the coil.
