I've picked up monitors that size on Craigslist for $15 and free.

These are supposedly brand new, though.

If you're spending that much on brand new PC Crts, you might as well pay Gameroom Designs 4 grand to build you a 47" wide MAMECade and call it a day.

That is what it says but it also has no warranty and is listed as is

So no returns if it is not working so you'd be better off getting a refurbished one that has been inspected than one that has been sitting in storage for 10+ years ( don't think Sony has manufactured that model for at least that long if not longer !!) Figure if they have been sitting in a warehouse for decades without ever being opened it's probable they are not working or would need parts replaced due to failure from sitting that long. I'd trust a refurbished model over a brand new one that has sat for that long !

This kind of stuff shows up all the time on Craigslist. The way IT departments used to order equipment, they'd order monitors for their 200 engineers, graphic designers or whatever and then they'd order and extra 25 or 30 as spares. I'm sure this is just a cache of spares. Normally when I see them for sale on Craigslist they're going for much cheaper, like $50-$200. Used monitors of this type normally sell for $10-$20 on Craigslist.

Exactly. There's no reason to pay $525 shipped for one of these when you can get it locally for a lot less, and not have to dumpster-dive to do it.

Just because it says new on eBay (well known for scams) does not mean anything.

That looks like an old manufacturers promo pic to me.

lots of computer stores in my area sell "REFURBISHED" LCD monitors...

monitors they've picked up in bulk from the government auction for 5 bucks for a pallet of a dozen or more.

I guess "refurbished" means they've scraped the decals off that say "property of fish and wildlife".

Yet we've got a long line of people throwing money at Arrow Direct.... so obviously some people are happy with that process....

Yeah, but to be fair, they're only buying them when they're dirt cheap with free shipping. No one is paying Arrow Direct full "retail".

And arrow direct gives you a 30 day return for any reason or no reason (you pay return shipping)  and 60 day functional return warranty (they pay shipping) -  so if you get something that isn't what you expected you can just send it back for a refund and if something goes wrong with it within the 60 days they'll replace it or refund you.

THe link you posted is SOLD AS IS so you get what you get even after paying full retail for it !!!

I'd take a chance on a $20 - $40 refurb from arrow direct with a 60 day guarantee that it is functional over $600 for supposedly brand new with no chance of retrun or refund if it arrives non functional !! (Actually I have several times and have not had any problems that have not been corrected and actually have a Samsung 214T arriving today -- Can't beat a 21.3" 4:3 monitor for $40.39 delivered !)

+1

I'd rather take something tried and true over something never sparked up before. the thought of having something that doesn't have 10,000 hours of life burned out of it is certainly appealing, but as-is with no option of going back is a deal killer.
